Affidavit?

How crucial is it to check off these boxes?

I authorize the University of California to release application information, including copies of my application and test scores, to outside agencies that award scholarships.

I authorize the University of California to release to my parents/legal guardian or spouse information regarding my application, including test scores, transcripts, and other supporting documents, as they relate to my admission and scholarship status.

I authorize the University of California to release to my school or college counselor/counseling office (or sponsoring agency) information regarding my application, including test scores, transcripts and other supporting documents, as they relate to my admission and scholarship status.

I authorize the University of California to release biographical information from my application to recognized UC organizations and alumni groups that may wish to contact me before and after admission decisions are made.

I don’t like the idea of having my confidential information made public. Can this affect scholarships or influence admission’ decision? Do admission officers actually see this?

It’s to increase your chances of getting scholarship from other programs. It’s your choice if you want to or not.

What are “outside agencies?” I don’t want my information floating around in the public.

No idea, but I’m going to assume they are at least legit enough to be qualified by UC. Unless UC is going to release the information to everyone

is it common for students to check these boxes? I don’t want to be at a disadvantage. I’m really a borderline applicant.

It isn’t going to encourage/discourage your admittance if that’s what you’re asking.

It’s just a program that will help expose you to more scholarship program that can be available.
