I recently heard the argument that AA is valid because it gives URMs a chance for a better life despite their upbringing. First of all, how can you determine one’s social environment and upbringing based solely on their race? I know numerous African-Americans that have >$100,000 family incomes and have ample money for tutors and extra classes, yet they get a better chance at admissions because of their “shoddy upbrining”?? What is that logic? My family has struggled so much financially over the years. I have worked my ass off to be at the top of my class, yet I am just stereotyped as the typical “Asian machine” with no social life. Like if this is seriously your argument for the validity of AA, wouldnt it be more logical to base admissions on socioeconomic factors??
This argument has been beaten to a pulp. Give it a rest.
