Affluent safety schools?

Hi everyone! As a sociology major, i am very interested in these topics and i thought i would get great responses from this forum! I am glad to have joined and be a part of this community now!
I have read numerous discussions about elite schools and the rich kids that attend them. However, I have never seen a discussion about these kids that don’t have the grades to get into those. What are their safety schools? I hope i’ve provided an interesting topic to elaborate on! Thanks for your replies!

University of Oklahoma can be thought of as an affluent Texan’s safety school. Many state flagships that surround California can also be seen as safeties for wealthy Californians.

This is true of most state schools that attract a significant contingent of OOS students (but especially true of the typically more expensive flagships).

Perhaps any school that is expensive, not good with financial aid (or guaranteed-for-stats merit scholarships), and not that selective for admissions would attract more wealthy students using it as a safety. These can be out-of-state public schools or expensive private schools with poor financial aid.

Of course, it is entirely possible that a student from a wealthy family chooses a lower cost school (or one with good financial aid that s/he does not use) for a safety. But being from a wealthy family means that the potential choices of safeties is greater than if one needed the school to be lower cost (after applying financial aid).
