Jail sentences serve many purposes. One is deterrence. How harsh does the sentence have to be before it has a chilling affect on people’s desire to engage in the behavior. They other is closure. How harsh does the sentence have to be so society and the victims in particular feel a sense that justice has been served. I’m not sure what the right number is, but 2 years seems to short.
