Affordable Care Act Scene 2 - Insurance Premiums

Done with finals, romani?

Yeah GP…

Didnt you read the CBO report?

The info is not a secret.

You are off by what? A factor of a third? And you are arguing with us? With me?

This is the truth. If I didnt think ACA could work number wise, I would say so.
I said dont project your politics on me. :)

I’ve got amaretto going. Vacation starts tomorrow. I will not miss that endless ad nauseum reiteration of “all the fundamental problems.” (Maybe because I may have web access.) Ya know, it’s Whack-a-Mole. Or the tale of Hercules and the Hydra-- cut off one of its 7 heads and 7 more grow in its place. The complaints just don’t stop coming. Knowing, 4 years ago, pretty much sums up fixed disbelief.

It’s not perfect, ok?

Yes, SLS! SO DONE! Submitted my last one today at 4 and hallelujah I survived! I learned my lesson (I think) about taking over 16 credits as a grad student.

Then I took a nap. And it was glorious.

“It’s not perfect, ok?”

Now we are arguing about fantasy numbers. :)

Whatever the 500,000 number means, I will bet you there will be far less than this number of Covered Ca. PAYING customers by March 31 with a May 1 payment date.

Ok…

That’s right. It’s seven million people in exchange plans, plus however many new subscribers who buy off the exchange, plus all the new Medicaid/CHIP enrollees.

We do not allow that sort of thing in our household. It’s pure butter all the way here.

It’s a terrible disappointment to Mr. Fang and me that Fang Jr can’t program, though. How can he not program, we think. How can he not see how satisfying it is to program?

The loser has to apologize on this thread for all the wrong-headed assertions he has made about ACA. :)

“We do not allow that sort of thing in our household.”

There is actually no better cookie than the Pillsbury sugar cookies, covered with butter frosting and M&M’s. So good, so evil.

“It’s a terrible disappointment to Mr. Fang and I that Fang Jr can’t program, though. How can he not program, we think. How can he not see how satisfying it is to program?”

I’d almost trade you the cookie baking for the programming, but busdriver jr would be out of a job. Maybe Fang Jr is disinterested because it’s a parent thing, and he’ll come to it eventually.

“The loser has to apologize on this thread for all the wrongheaded assertions they have made about ACA.”

Now that, I’d like to hear…from either of you! Or both of you.

Ok…you said far lower than 500,000. What is far lower?

We are going to include everybody who wants to play.

We are counting the numbers the way I said.

Just to clarify… what are we betting on again?

I’m a bettin’ woman so I’m in. Just need to know the rules ;)

Romani…We are almost there. :)

I’ve had this sense, all along, that there are those opposed and those trying to listen and maybe go off and learn; those who tell us it’s doomed, because they- and some media reports- believe it is. And then some who go off and find credible reports. Oh, but there can’t be any credibility to positive reports–

So, it’s twisted and addicting.

There are rarely big projects that roll out perfectly, with no hitches. It’s naive to think this one could be perfect form the get-go. What matters to me will be the reports that start to come out, oh, maybe mid 2014 or later, when we can see. It’s childbirth. It’s a ring of fire while the country tries to move that darned big ship.

I didn’t expect it to be perfect. I do like when smart folks with opinions do some digging on their own, not just shoot buckshot at whatever looks like a good target.

And a clarification: if it’s 500k enrolled (meaning paid, I’m assuming?), how on earth will we get those numbers if you pay the insurance company directly? Are they releasing them?

I dont think so… We should bet on the enrollees

We can do both.

Then we can all be right. :)

GP, what are the numbers?

I’d much rather bet on the enrollees. I’d rather bet with one level of incompetence (government) rather than two (government and the insurance company) ;)

Maybe I will just make markets. Then people can choose. :)
