My guess is there will me more than 30,000 signups in Cal on Dec 23 alone. Actually my guess is higher, but there is no need to state a higher number. :)

Emilybee, no May 1st.

That date may cause the pro 500,000 people to lose a few people. The ones that sign up during the second half of March may not have coverage until May 1. Some might pay late.

I am just stating this for full disclosure. :)

I don’t see anyone trashing Medicaid recipients or those getting big subsidies, either. But, if the question is will enough people sign up for free health insurance that’s just bizarre. Of course, if it’s free people will take it. Why wouldn’t they?
It still has to be paid for somehow.

^ There are LOTS of people that are eligible for SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, etc that don’t take it. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean that people will take it.

Some people don’t know they’re eligible. Some people don’t know how to sign up. Some people won’t take “government handouts”. There are a variety of reasons why some people won’t take it.

There are buildings full of people whose job it is to get those folks signed up. Despite their obvious incompetence, in this case I think they’ll get the job done.

If taxpayers are paying for services people don’t want that’s even sillier imho.

Even in non-expansion states, a lot more kids have been signed up for Medicaid/CHIP, just because of all the publicity. Those kids were already eligible, but now they are signed up.

When getting medicaid or large subsidies is referred to as getting “candy,” to me that is derogatory.

I have also seen mention of enrollment numbers where some have pointed out that the numbers are only as big as they are because of medicaid sign ups - as if they somehow don’t count.

Though t I would weigh in on our experience in MD. We have Care First BCBS and our premiums went up about 7% to $2600 per month . Same policy as the last 12 years. About what we expected.
