BTW, the Indian food in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area is “too-die-for.” You can’t NOT run into an excellent Indian restaurant in that area. Simply amazing. :D/
Certain areas of Sunnyvale are food deserts, IMO. Some are pretty decent. If she lands in a food desert, she might need to figure out how not to starve at lunch.
I love that neighborhood too, but the secret is out. Does an 1100 sq foot house in that area sound nice? $4800 a month. 1 br, 1 ba apartment? $3000.
Well, it could be worse. You could be trying to rent an apartment with about 1/2 the square footage in Cow Hollow are of SF for the same amount of money. :))
You can find rooms for $1,200-$1,800 per month near Castro in MV.
The area around South Murphy Av. in Sunnyvale is pretty hot now…lots of great restaurants. I guess it’s the new Castro St. On Craig’s List it looks like there are some rooms available in apartments/houses near there that are relatively reasonable.
A long long time ago, I dated someone who lived near South Murphy in Sunnyvale. I haven’t been down there in a long time, but that area was a ghost town. Businesses would come and go and there was almost no one walking those streets down there. My, have times changed.
From what I remember, the South of Murphy area didn’t have the residential tree-lined streets that the Castro St. area has and had. But good pick!
DS stayed at the Corporate Inn in Sunnyvale several years back they are little one bedroom suites with a kitchenette. They served buffet breakfast and a happy hour every day. But I think the monthly rates were over $2000 so probably too high.
Marylin, it is a decent place, but I guarantee that Inn will be charging way more than $2k a month. Too many darn commuters!
My son is spending spring quarter on an internship at Intel, in Oregon. He is living in Portland and found a place for 3 months using AirBnb! It worked out great, there is a discounted rate for long-term rentals (don’t get scared away by the daily rate), and he has a nice bedroom and bathroom in someone’s big house.
