Affordable subject-specific test prep

May I ask if it is possible to find affordable subject-specific test prep for the SAT? I have totally no problems with math, so is there any affordable test prep ($25/hr below) for only the CR and writing sections?

Thanks!

Have you read the Important threads on this forum?

Please don’t go for a test prep course… Its a waste of money regardless of cost. What they tend to do is just tell you to do work (some of it in lessons so you are paying for someone to watch you do work) and help explain the answers to you afterwards (and if in a group course, you can expect the teacher to be explaining almost every single question including those you know). In reality, this work can all be done individually and you can find clear explanations to the specific questions you got wrong online (for the blue book).

You may argue that a test-prep course may also give some strategies but to be honest the strategies on this forum and in some test prep books out there are so much better.

You may then argue that they give more resources. I maintain, if you are willing to pay so much, then you had might as well spend the money buying better resources like The Critical Reader (http://www.amazon.com/The-Critical-Reader-Erica-Meltzer/dp/147922471</a> or Barrons SAT 2400 or [The Insider’s Essential Guide to SAT Critical Reading and Vocabulary: Larry Krieger: 9780985291228: Amazon.com: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Insiders-Essential-Critical-Reading-Vocabulary/dp/0985291222/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1385307871&sr=1-1&keywords=The+insiders+guide+to+sat+critical+reading))

Then how about extra practice tests? Once again, if you are willing to spend so much money, just get the online course and you get 10 more legitimate (9 actually because 1 of them is free) full tests from Collegeboard.

As for supervision and proctoring your diagnostics properly, you can easily have this done at home by buying the SAT study guide with DVD which allows you to play a recording of a proctor talking and giving instructions according to the SAT guidelines.

Therefore, test preps courses are definitely not worth it. Thus, I urge you reconsider your decision to join a test prep course for your own good.

I got 2400 in Subject Tests (Phy,Math L-II, Chem). All I did was to borrow Phy and Math books (Princeton Review) one week before the test. I didn’t even open the Phy book. I’m particularly good at it, and I know it!. I did Maths for 3 days and Chem from Sparknotes for another 3. Well trust me, it was as easy like anything. (I’m an Indian student and I have been preparing for entrance exam of my country, which as at least 4 times more difficult than SAT)
