Affrimative Action (something to think about)

Please share your thoughts about the following situation:

Student A is black; he scores 800 points higher than the avg. score of black students on the SAT.

Student B is white; he scores 600 points higher than the avg. score of white students on the SAT.

Student A scores 2100, Student B 2200.

A more greatly surpassed the expected score for his demographic but B because he outscored Student A. Based on this factor alone, which of the two should be admitted and why?

Based on this factor alone

I see no point in answering, because it can never be based on this factor alone. It always depends on many other factors.

What if student B’s parents make 25,000/year and student A’s parents make 250,000/year?

It’s very, very hard to compare.

go away ■■■■■.

what’s affrimative action?

[Affirmative action - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Affirmative action - Wikipedia)

Kiki, look at the title of this thread. (;

Student B. I mean, if I was an adcom. But those guys from Harvard and Yale can admit whoever the hell they wish. I don’t really care. I don’t want to go to a place where a man is admitted by the color of his skin. It’s below my dignity.

What does that mean?

what about both 2200, who to admit there, would you say the black guy got in because of his race. That is where is can get iffy. What about the black guy with 2300, who to admit there, and would people still argue affirmative action. Just some things to think about, because the situation i illustrate does happen sometimes, I know it does. Thoughts?

I take the position that AA “undermines the achievements of minorties” as stated in the wiki article. I personally feel that people judge me as getting into a good college because I am of a certain race, while I have MUCH higher scores and grades than those people. They still use race as an excuse, which still makes some feel inferior. They want you because of your race, not your accomplishments because that is all they see, even if the black kids accomplishments and scores are better. Another thing to ponder.

People are always going to rationalize black achievement one way or another in order to soothe their egos. Whether its blaming affirmative action or saying you “aren’t really black”. You can’t really use that as a case because its not AA that “undermines the achievements of mionorities”, its PEOPLE who undermine the achievements of minorities.

Kiki,

Affrimative Action

Didn’t catch it either at first.

Isn’t that just a typo? Is there really something known as “Affrimative Action?”

yes i thought they were all just poking fun at the typo :P

Forgive my typo, everyone. And forgive the post. I’m new to this site and I was just trying to gain some insight on a controversial issue, but apparently posting a ‘game’ for everyone to play would have earned me far less derision than a typing error. Forgive my beginner’s mistake!
