Aflac internship or not?

I was speaking with my brother tonight and my neice went to a group interview with Aflac about an internship. From what he described it sounds like a commission sales job, you can work a couple days a week and make thousands over the summer. Does anyone have experience with this? I’m suspicious but love the duck in their ads!

Thousands in commissions? I smell a rat. If it sounds too good to be true, it is not going to be true.

I believe Barbara Erenreich took an Aflac job as part of her stint for writing Nickle and Dimed. From what I remember she had a less than positive experience and didn’t make much cash. Quack.

If she has nothing else lined up and doesn’t need to put out any money, I say give it a shot. It is a good skill to have - Sale.

Sorry, the book was “Bait and switch” - same author.
Personally, I don’t think everyone is suited to straight commission sales. But if your niece is outgoing, persuasive, persistent and driven, she may make some good money.
I think I would last a day or two in that type of job but some folks do well!

You can actually make thousands, but you must be licensed as an insurance agent before you can make money off of any insurance sales (commission). An insurance license entails studying for and passing the state insurance exam (paying the state a fee, of course). Some insurance companies will offer the option as an internship: Do work FOR the agent/manager and don’t get paid, or become a licensed agent and DO get paid. Personally, I believe it’s a good idea to get licensed if you like sales, because you might find that you want to continue after graduation (and you will have gotten the test behind you!). Just a thought!
