EPTR, it is the last paragraph of the article.

…the reference to the parents was in the last line of the article

so it wasn’t really Affluenza after all, which if you think about it is kind of offensive, as if simply having wealth implies parents don’t instill values.

Thanks. It’s been a long day.

Affluenza obviously isn’t real (I can’t believe no one noticed it was a pun off of “influenza” or the FLU!!) but i think there is a serious issue with substance abuse here that may be overlookked because of the other folks who got hurt. It’s sad how unlikely it is that they will get help/attention because of the media fireball going off around them! Especially the poor guy who is in Coma!

I thought it was so obvious as to go without saying…

Yeah. No, we got the Affluenza/Influenza play on words. :)

I thought the affluenza play on words was obvious…I was stating that affluenza isn’t what the real issue was…it wasn’t simply the presence of wealth, but the presence of alcohol and similar actions on the part of the parents that seemed to have influenced this young man’s behavior and choices

The law is fascinating. Wish we were privvy to the court proceedings. Are they trying to say that the current sentence was only for the manslaughter charges and that there was no sentence for the intoxication assault cases? That would be odd.

And as for the parents history, this is probably why the judge wanted to get this kid away from them and into a good treatment facility, so hopefully he can turn his life around and hopefully be a responsible, productive citizen, and not follow in his parents footsteps.

They were saying on the news tonight that the parents had a “spare” 3-4,000 square foot house that the kid got to stay in all by himself, including throwing parties there without adult supervision. I know things can get mistated in the news, but if it’s true it’s pretty amazing.

Hayden,
Someone linked the lawsuit earlier in the thread. In it it lists the residences where they think they can serve the papers. There are 2 residences and a third additional address for the dad, presumably the office.

Interesting:

Link got ***d out. Can you write out the title?

Oops!

Let me try this one:

Hopefully civil court will take care of the parent’s “afluenza”. Unbelievable. And there are cases, we’ve even had them on the board, where no accident occurred, no one gets hurt, let alone killed, but there is mandatory jail time.

10 years probation is a very long time–plenty of time for him to break the terms and go to jail. It doesn’t seem right that he serves NO jail time, I agree. Hope he does improve from the lockdown treatment.

<a href=“Du Pont Heir Robert H. Richards IV Got Probation”>Du Pont Heir Robert H. Richards IV Got Probation;

More “afluenza”

Disgusting. I have no words.

You know, romani, when I first heard about this duPont ruling, I thought it was an Onion article. It took me a while to realize it was a true story. I just don’t get it. He touches his infant son inappropriately and doesn’t get charged; now he molests his 3-year old daughter, and gets probation because jail would be hard on him. This is just unbelievable.

Is this really in America?

Oh, it’s America all right.
Not the America that you and I know, but America nonetheless.

(ugh typos galore)

Affluenza kid’s father has been arrested.
