So I’ve been working on this essay for a few weeks now and hope to “apply before thanksgiving pie”. Some of my friends have read it and they always give me a nostalgic smile of approval after reading it but I’ve yet to get any real criticisms. Due to the structure of my essay I don’t want to give away why an older person may not fully understand it but it’ll be obvious once you’ve read it.

Thanks in advance! (and out of caution, please no '14s)

When you say older people might not “get it”, how old to you mean. I might fit your definition. I will take a look at your essay, if you would like.

You do need to take your reader into consideration, but…they could be “all over the map”. And…us “over 50s” aren’t quite senile yet, AND many of us have kids (no, I don’t work in admissions, I’m just saying that, in general).

But my real reason to post was to say that we went to a presentation consisting of Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Georgetown, and Penn. The presenters were your readers. And some were the “directors” of their admissions departments. And I do not think ANY of them were over 40. I would say 3 of the 5 were about 30-34. 1 was younger, and one was very young.
