AFSA National High School Essay Contest

http://www.afsa.org/essay-contest
How does this essay contest affect admissions, especially for top universities? Is it well known and really prestigious, making a very significant impact if you get first or second place? Or is it something that admit committees have never heard about (or somewhere in between)?
Factors that I’m weighing:
They say they’re one of the most prestigious essay competitions in the nation
Collegeconfidential’s unofficial 1-10 ranking of awards rates essay contests as no higher than 4, but it doesn’t take into regional vs. national
The awards amount to over $30,000 worth of scholarships
The bulk of that scholarship is predetermined to be spent on Semester at Sea

any thoughts?

Do you want to go to Semester at Sea?

Based on the scholarship awards pool, this contest seems prestigious enough to be worth your effort.

Thanks @DeeperBlue25 , I’m not sure yet @bopper about Semester at Sea, my main interest in it is that if you go to an expensive college and you have a one semester scholarship for Semester at Sea, that’s one semester’s worth of tuition that you don’t have to pay to get your degree at that expensive college. What do you think about Semester at Sea?

A classmate went on Semester at Sea many years ago. She loved it. Since it is still going on, I’d guess it is successfUl.
