My son got a B- his first semester as well, in statistics. He was very worried that might hurt his McIntire chances, and met with them just a few weeks ago to discuss his upcoming application and chances (he is a second year and will be completing his application over break). They were very clear that the B- in and of itself will not hurt him. His overall GPA is 3.74 now but his mini GPA is a bit lower. He was able to get A’s in all his other classes, which really helped boost his overall GPA and especially the mini GPA higher. Don’t give up! McIntire will also be looking at your extra-curriculars also. They told my son they like to see 3 strong ones. Try to be well-rounded, get involved and keep working hard to get those grades up. McIntire is also very interested in your course load. They liked that my son had taken at least 15 credits each semester, and took a variety of classes. From his meeting, it does appear that they really do try to look at the whole package.

Given that you have two McIntire prerequisite classes that are low, you will need to work hard, and have a back up plan. But don’t give up and use this as motivation to work harder. Like I told my son, all you can do is try your best and put yourself in the best position possible for acceptance. Whether you are accepted is out of your hands, but either way, you will know that you gave it all you had. Good luck.
