Has anyone experienced this- if so how long did it last.

I had some last Monday and Tuesday and now I have an bitter after taste after everything I eat.

I thought I must have something wrong until I googled and found out pine nuts cause this.

Wow. that’s strange. I have an uncle who is EXTREMELY allergic to pine nuts. He’s a retired business exec, and while still working, was frequently at top restaurants where the “trendy” custom was to add pine nuts to everything. Over the years, each time he had a reaction, it became much worse. It took a long while to figure out what food was causing it. They finally zeroed in on pine nuts. He now has an epi-pen and has had to use it, and of course always checks the ingredients when he’s ordering at restaurants or somewhere other than home. The ER has told him that if he hadn’t used the epi-pen the last time, he wouldn’t have made it to the hospital. Don’t know if the bitter after-taste is anything to worry about, but be careful about these bad boys. (btw, uncle has no other food allergies…not peanuts, nothing except pine nuts).

I have eaten pine nuts for years this is the first time it happened. I read it is mostly pine nuts from China- also it is not supposed to be a health concern.

Where they fresh? They get rancid quickly. I keep mine in the freezer.

This is a new one to me. We eat pine nuts a lot and have had no problems. I agree; you might cut them out forever at this point.

They were fresh- I had just purchased them. I keep them in the refrigerator.

We have eaten at Bonefish a few times, and they use pine nuts in their house salad. They get very salty when they are old, and we’ve had to ask the waiter to take our salads back because of this. We’ve only noticed this in salads, and only at Bonefish. We always are happy with everything else that we’ve ordered there.

Tom, I know exactly what you’re talking about! A couple of years ago I started getting this weird bitter taste in my mouth - at first only after I ate something sweet, but soon it happened no matter what I ate. I started googling, too, and found a whole lot of message boards where people were describing the exact same symptoms. These people were from all over the world, not just the US. It did seem that Chinese pine nuts were to blame. I wracked my brain to think what I had eaten that contained pine nuts and it turned out that it was pesto sauce from Costco.

About a year later I had that same pesto sauce again and had the same reaction. None of my family members did, though, so apparently it’s something like the “cilantro gene” that only affects certain people.

I have searched my supermarket for pine nuts from somewhere other than China but with no luck. I’m a little bit afraid to try them again, though, even non-Chinese ones.

The bad taste lasted about a week if I remember correctly, maybe 10 days. It was horrible while it lasted and I was afraid it was going to be permanent, so was very relieved when it wore off.
