After the launch

OKay I promise everyone I won’t post when I’m up with insomnia, have had too much caffeine because it’s 4am and I’m up but can’t focus or work. I promise to behave, please come back. But your points were well taken Bears even if spirit-dampening. Me…I just go for the grim by nature.

And besides Bears maybe it’s okay, sometimes, as you well know, you have to dampen the thread or you can’t get the thread through to the other side. Or at least I have to.

One thing I wanted to mention that is on topic a bit more. Why would a school expect a bunch of students to be packed and ready to move out the day after final tests? Is it just me or isn’t that asking a bit much?

Haallllloooooo
Tigger bouncing in…
Got a letter from MICA announcing that they are now pleased to announce a new storage facility for MICA students for the summer – for the (get this) affordable rate of $500! Includes door to door delivery. No food or flammables allowed. It’s this storage locker thing you pack up and they take away and store it and deliver it back to you on move-in day.

Don’t have a clue what D1 is gonna do. Pretty certain she will not be at MICA for the Fall. Beyond that, who knows? She didn’t follow up and do anything about registering (I handed her the letter and left it to her to take care of). Professionals that are involved don’t think she is ready to go back. So the waiting game continues. It is difficult to keep the tongue in check and the lips zippered shut.

Aspie girl will take the SAT on Mon/Tues (accommodations due to her disability) and has steadfastly refused to do anything to prepare for it. sigh. Did see an offer about a free lease for a horse at the barn we go to and gave it some undue consideration (ought to get my head examined). At least I had sense enough to not mention anything to Aspie girl. Could almost afford to do it since D1 and Manga girl aren’t riding anymore.

Manga girl has yet another belly ache. I’m going to have to get more ruthless about the processed foods in the house. Gluten is sneaking in under the door or something. You find it in the darndest places… a while ago I had bought a jar of pickles – and after Manga girl opened the jar and ate some… I happened to glance at the label… it had ‘glucose syrup (wheat)’ in it. ARggggHHH. Who would put gluten in pickles? Anyway, every once in awhile I have to do a little course correction of our gluten free ship and banish some of the snack items that find their way into our house and double check some of the ‘staples’. It could be that she just had one Peep too many.

Over and out…

oh Tigger am I glad to see you!
since fammom want to be woozle, I had to do Rabbit’s part, too.
invite switts for honey if she is coming to town.
^^^love, I will try but don’t count on it. I am dead wrong person to ask to take photos of anything. I will go see for sure, just have to see when and how, Cooper guard’d never let you in wrong time/days
it is bummer students are long gone by the time show is up.
This means, they are making statement how local oriented Cooper philosophy is. it’s good and bad thing.

can I ask something stupid?
so you are supposed to register for classes before having orientation? It supposedly start tomorrow for him and the period last one week only.
are they expecting 19 year old male to read thru course descriptions, consider time differences, foresee the future learning environment of unfamiliar college settings, guess which profs are cute/ easy/ kick a*ss/ and rooms got good view/ numbers of stairs and alleyway you had to maneuver to get there in 5 seconds?
scary

Bears yeah they probably expect that. But check their drop period and let him know. A lot of LACs have periods where you can drop a class if it doesn’t seem what you wanted. It’s a short window but does give you the chance to attend and if it doesn’t fit you kind of return it.

Glutenmon: You might not want to pass this on to Aspie girl, it’s a dangerous concept but I thought you’d enjoy it. Here’s my kids take on SATs. You’re NOT supposed to study for it, they want to see what you really know and studying for it is kind of like cheating. Oh my…

Good luck with that zippered mouth thing, been there, done that sort of (I’m not very good at the zippered mouth thing)./

a busy day for me today, Find out so many posters here!

greenwitch:
when I see you are busy with three Ds, I feel wow! I just have one to take care and that is much easier. but I did jealous big family a lot especially holiday time.

bears and artsmarts:
You must have fun last night!

bears:
I did see a lot LACs get their class registration done early and give you a chance to switch like artsmarts said. It is called a shopping period, it can be one week or two weeks long.
Don’t worry about the photo thing. It is not a big deal. I am confused why freshman have a show. I thought only Senior have.

My trip is coming. I am so busy to book hotel and buy ticket. Current I got Hotel done for London, Paris and Athens. I have fly from Paris to Athens and another fly from Crete to Amsterdam. I still have a long way to go. I want to get all done before D get home, so that I don’t have another opinion to mess up what i want. Anyway she didn’t participate the plan in the beginning.

Ah loveblue, I’m so glad I have company in not having my trip all properly planned yet. I keep telling myself, “I’ll get to it this weekend, no next weekend, damn, I have to get hotels settled”! We’ll end up sleeping outside with the puffins. Now D1 stupidly bought concert tickets for the night before we leave. And we leave from NY! She thinks she can go to a big concert in rural Virgina (the kind of place it take two hours to leave because of all the cars in the parking lot) and drive straight through to NY to be there on time. The kid has gotten good grades which just goes to show that you can be smart and still be an utter fool at the same time!

She and I did manage to move all her stuff today. A big chunk to storage and the rest home. My muscles ache already and I’m sure they won’t recover before I have to help D2 this weekend. We also managed to look at two apartments in between and we put down a deposit on one although there was no time to sign the lease. It’s cheerful, spacious and bright, but can I say there must have been a big sale on panelling. That, and those godawful dropped ceiling panels. Still, there weren’t many options and her rent will be 1/2 of what we’ll pay in Baltimore (and both are still cheaper than the dorm price, even counting all 12 months).

But best of all was finding out that she won’t be working on Sunday so she can help us move D1 out!!! She’ll complain, and I might offer to pay her. She’s worth it. Then, she’ll get all clever and refuse money for helping, instead insisting that she be allowed to go that stupid concert the night before we leave for Iceland. And who is Rascal Flats anyway?

G-mom, we got that storage offer from Mica too. It’s amazing! It’s for some kind of storage locker unit that you fill yourself and then they store all summer in a big warehouse. So, you still have to schlepp all the kid’s stuff down to the parking lot and fill the container. Then, if you come back early, you can’t get to anything until the delivery date because the container is stowed somewhere. And $500??? Holy moly, we found out that the storage unit (5x5x10) would be only $40/month and then D2 found some friends who are renting a house and renting out storage space in their house over the summer. They offered to charge her $30/month but we’ll pay them $40/month since that was what we were expecting to pay anyway.

@artsmarts, I wondered about the sudden move out date for D1 too. Maybe they had too much experience with students blowing off steam once their finals were over and decided to start kicking them out early. For the parents’ sake, I wish they were more flexible, but I am very happy to say that next year it won’t bother me at all since she’ll be in an off-campus apartment!

Yeah, I would think the emphasis should be on studying unless of course they plan ahead and start packing before the finals begin. But really who would do that? Not my kid that’s for sure.

I must admit though that I would have said that we use the expression packing loosely around here but was totally surprised at the bubble wrapping and careful placement. My child actually managed to ship a set of dishes home without one single piece breaking. Of course those were the dishes I said to leave because I paid like $5 for the set at TJ Maxx and requested a couple of much more expensive electric appliances come home. So the dishes arrived, totally unscathed and the appliances were left behind. Oh well the bubble wrapping was so impressive that I’ve gotten over it…sort of.

Hi Arty and Bears,

I wish I had known you guys were up. I had the worst insomnia last night.

The sad news is that day two of the anti-seizure meds were a wash. He was in bad shape all day, I called my H at work and he once again tried to talk me down, saying “we can change the meds, talk to the doctor, etc, etc…” I got myself so worked up, and ****ed at having to make this decision, and then having to think about talking my H into it, that I pulled some muscle in my shoulder and have such a knot of pain I can hardly move my arm. Anyway, long story short, my H came home, took one look at the dog, and me and said ok, lets go put him out of his misery. He had a for real seizure in the car on the way there, and so, in spite of my best efforts (or mediocre efforts) I still managed to prolong his life to the point of suffering. His death was calm, because they give them valium first, and he died in our arms. Sorry to be so sad. Dont know why I had the insomnia, it was day three of no sleep, and I had taken a pain med and had a beer, so I should have been knocked out.

In other news, we are experiencing some permutation of what all movers above are doing. We will drive up the day of S’s last class, move some of his stuff to the apartment, bring some of it and him home. I have no idea what state the dorm will be in, its depressing to think about how gross boys are. But it will be so nice to have him home. He is lining up babysitting for the summer, I think. Also taking a print making class with his dad.

sorry switters…

dear switters…i am so sorry. take good care. I hope you get some sleep amidst all of the running around. I’m glad you’ll have your boy home with you soon.

side note to bears…mama knows best

greetings and happy spring to all

I think “You talkin’ to me” is from Mean Streets. It goes along with “What’s a mook?” which is one of my favorite lines in a movie ever.

mama know no facebook, mama know no twitter, mama know no registration add drop, mama know no which is gas or brake, mama know no how to get on off interstates, mama know no how to launch mama know no nothing.
scared and excited. mama no ready at all at all…

Ah Switters I am so so sorry. But you gave him a good home and the comfort of your arms as he left. It was more than enough I’m sure.

Bears . . . mama’s going to be fine, just fine…if you get too scared just put up a post and we’ll talk you through it. But you’re a good mama Bear and you’ll get through this.

Poor sweet Switters… so sorry about your furry friend. I’m sure leaving while he was in your arms was the best way to go.

D1, Aspie girl, Manga girl, the papillion, the yellow lab and the husband are all about the same. I have started to get my act in gear about moving on to find another job. My current boss has hit the road for Chicago (she’s going to work for the hostile takeover company) and more and more people fade away every day. I think I really may very well be the person that turns out the lights on June 30.

It turns out that perhaps another local biotech company is going to move into the facility my current company is abandoning. Plus they had a position open that I was qualified for – so I applied. Meanwhile, the plan I had had pick up this gig that features working from home is slowly coming to fruition- I got a call about that from the head hunter honcho yesterday. My current boss got a call from somebody at the work-from-home gig asking what level I should come in at (she told me definitely more senior than where I was at in current job) so it looks like that option is coming along too. I had secretly hoped for a summer off collecting unemployment – but it doesn’t seem that that’s in the cards and I’d be a fool to let these jobs slip away – even though the pressure of paying tuition at MICA is lifted at the moment. On the other hand I hate hate hate job interviews.

It seems to me that I was actually the one who launched…

switters, I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to your sweet old dog. Don’t feel bad about his last few days, he was probably very happy to have some extra time with you and your H. That’s all dogs really want, isn’t it?

Gmom
no you are the one bounced.
OK OK leave the 100acre wood now.
reality, reality…
now, should I leave for job or stop by at Met to see ridiculous dress show of dead designer who actually could make something you can wear if felt like it - princess Kate’s wedding garb.
