hot or not, we eat soup almost every day. Ecuadorean tradition since it isn’t a meal if it doesn’t start with soup. I also think it is the secret to staying slim. You fill up on all that liquid so even with the potatoes and cheese and yuca etc you don’t eat as many calories the second dish. Now that Ecuadoreans are going toward fast food or skipping the soup tradition they are getting heavier. The downside for me is that I HATE a lunch of a sandwhich or salad that is all cold…I have to have something hot and would prefer a lunch with a soup even on the hottest day like today.

The trek desk would be ideal for my husband since he has some real issues sitting all day (the real downside to being gauntly thin is little padding on the seat area) but is also a workaholic. I am going to send the link to my kids…should get lots of chuckles. Unfortunately, if he had this he may never stop working and would never go outside!

Thanks BandD for the corn salsa recommendation. I never knew corn was bad for acne …S has been eating it all summer which may explain his flare up.

G-Mom–chaulafan is what a chinese restaurant is called in ecuador and chinese cooking has worked itself into the diet from when chinese workers came to work on railroads. There is a dish from Peru called Lomo Saltado that is absolutely fantastic–stir fry with french fries mixed in (sounds gross but it is pretty much the national dish of Peru).

now google banner is cute.
why? national pea day?
it is Gregor Mendel (pea gene guy)'s birthday
peas are too, no-no for acne but they are also cute/local/good now. tempted to get some from the farmers market.
fammom
I think I posted before somewhere but here is the nutso acne Dr.'s book that helped our case.

what he really does is selling fancy supplements but food alone can help in many cases, contrary to common belief. not so much about chocolate or fried food, more of daily eating habits.
it is about inflammatory issue. sugary and starchy food burns wrong and that’s how make skin flare up, or promote aging, so he says. it should be good for whole family.
I do eat “bad” food all the time, just that now bit more aware of what to eat and could tell how it affects sluggishness, mood, or energy level.

let’s see if I remember…
to avoid
baked goods, banana, corn, fruit juices, peas, papaya, potatoes, pasta, white rice
to love
berries, flax seeds, old fashioned stone ground oatmeal (not the ones in the cylinder with the scary old man on it), cold water fish, esp. wild salmon (obsessively), green leafy veggies, quinoa (obsessively), cantaloupes, yogurt, macadamia nuts
I am sure there were more. but you get the picture.

I am crabby sleep-typing had to get to work some point when somehow fix some food for the kid and check emails and shower and and and and…
OK
does able bodied 19year old male need brunch ready in fridge when one wake up?
why is that he stays in the central park where you shouldn’t wonder around after dark- Simon and Gerfunkel said- till 2-3 in the morning and why is that I just jump up when hear his key turns why is that I am not even upset well knowing some of the friend had some stuff they shouldn’t have, all done some stuff they shouldn’t have.
why is that I would get up and steam chicken shumai Traderjoes on lettuce leaves and serve it with dip sauce (comes in the box) sprinkled with sesame seeds (for Dr. Perricone) and offer them when he asks
“eh, is there any food?”
shumai plate with dried bit of lettuce are still on the table. eggs are boiled now while I wrote^this. I am going to shower, make egg salad with caper and yogurt instead of commercial mayo (Dr. Perricone) and go to office.
you can call it apathetic, irresponsible or wishy-washy parenting.
all I want is peace
and chocolate (which I found in fridge, jagged half bar of Hershey symphony blue one with toffee. last night, between shumai bite he said
“for you, I saved it”
this is what happens when I don’t leave substantial brunch item.(it was one bagle(no-no Dr, periicone) and fruits yesterday)
I should try Ecuadorian soup with quinoa (Dr. perricone)

now I know why smarty always do multi posts.
part 2 (or 3)
so the floor to the bathroom is littered with cargo shorts, underwear, towel.
I pick up cargo shorts and check in the pocket, paper scraps, pens, pencils, on the counter is small sketchbook he must have taken out of pocket in order to take off the pants (or the habit, so I won’t wash and dry them)
it was my dream that he would always always willingly carry sketchbook wherever he goes.
I tried tried to make it happen.
happened. dream come true.
I can die happy today.

D1 appears before me about three hours ago with brand spanking new (hidden) Hershey’s Symphony bar with toffee…“Do you mind if I have this?”

I open my one awake eye wider.

“Only if you make a fresh pot of coffee.”

I close my one open eye again and forget about it. Until Bear’s post. So I’m letting 18 year old slacker steal my candy bar… oh wells. I give up on reminding her to eat her vegetables and have some salad and eat a decent breakfast. It’s her problem. I cook healthy food, but I’m not into making anyone eat it anymore. If they don’t want what I cook, they can find themselves something – they just better clean up after themselves…which they don’t. I should run away.

I was sleeping!!
the title was “bear cub report” B and N keys are next to each other and since there is a word “near” it didn’t catch it.

Gmom
are you Symphony fan, too?
I usually like red one better.
some reason their small bar disappeared from subway kiosk all together and never came back.
we can find it at drugstore or supermarket still.
I am guessing it must be popularity vote. If Hershey gets, say five slots in kiosk counter, had to be regular bar, almond, few more of something else but symphony was lost during trial period.
however during its run It left me with solid milk mark, since I’d assume every candy bar with red lettering is milk chocolate and blue is something else as Symphony’s colorway.
Dove bars have opposite, milk is blue and red is something else.
I’d keep buying wrong ones and getting frustrated.
is it just me?

I should follow that Perricone diet. I have have more skin trouble now than when I was a teenager. But I don’t eat only the bad things. Lots of good things too. I swear. But what about dark chocolate with salt in it? Not so good for the skin huh? I sure do appreciate all of these fancy new chocolates around. Years ago it was only Snickers for me. Dark chocolate was like medicine. Now I guess I’ve grown up and my skin has grown down.

No the learner’s permit did not show up. Who went on line and ordered a new one and who canceled the old appointment and made a new one? S2 didn’t have a credit card or his 5 hour course certificate at grandma’s. It ends up he can take that road test right before our vacation. Hope he passes, then H and I can sit back and let him drive.

Enjoy that corn/avocado salad. If you can grill that corn it is even better.

This computer is in a non air conditioned space…it is quite shocking how hot it is today. Don’t people in hot climates drink hot tea? Wouldn’t that follow with soup as well? It should end up making you feel cooler???

Today’s Google looked like a Calder mobile. When I moused over it, it is in honor of his 113th birthday. I was impressed with myself that I recognized it!!

B and D: I work at the TJ’s here and the bar is back in. Also, there is one similar to the caramel one with toffee bits. It is also fabulous, but not nearly as gooey. If you take the caramel bar and freeze it and then break it up and add it to brownies, you will be the hero! It makes the best gooey brownies! I think the bar went in and out so fast because it was inexpensive (bars from the company usually go for 7 or 8 dollars) and because everyone was using them as gifts for teachers (with gift cards) or just grabbing them by the handful, because they were so good. So, take another look and hopefully you can find them.

thanx redbug
for calder, I did check now instead going thru “history” and hit CC directly like I do in the mornings
gawd it’s nice (but barely readable G o o g(?) where is l? you can say it’s e if you want)
it must be fun job to come up with those… wonder if it require hi SAT and GPA???

try your local dig, besides what they stock is site specific.
it’s out from Chelsea NYC TJ store, the snobbiest, selfish-est and maybe hi income-est customers
yet yet the bar is only $1.99 each!!!
same sort by the sexy lady’s (her bio and half naked photo is on the back of the package) chocolate costs 8 bucks at Wholefoods.
bacon bar is best selling there. I bought only once for valentines day for my kid (of course it’s an excuse) decided it really isn’t worth the money. I can crisp bacon myself and dip in chocolate if I want to (no, haven’t done it, just sayin’)

well come to think of it, TJ’s knock-off looks suspiciously similar. the shape and size, attitude… wonder it’s from same supply source with tweaked recipe, I mean that’s what TJ do best.
go to the source and bargain it down with order volume, make it on their own, then supplier complains or goes out of business or something political happens in their government, and
your addicted, can not live without staples are suddenly gone from the store forever.
bye bye, RIP my loves… Pad Thai box set, broad rice boodle, 99cents fettuccine…
Why is that all are noodles noodles noodles…

Oh, another great thing at TJ’s is the frozen roasted corn. You can add it to a salad without defrosting and it will keep the salad cool as it defrosts! I use it in a salad similar to the corn/avocado salad, but I also add black beans and red onion! Delish! Sorry, did not mean to hijack the post.

phillymom
now I see that posts got jumbled, while I was at it, your first post went thru, I post mine without knowing yours was there. then I edited mine without knowing your second one was there, hahaha

oops did I just dis your employer?
you must know then is that conspiracy theory true?
when TJ opened first shop in Union Sq there was an article in NYT, which cautioned those addiction that cut short cold turkey-items.
do you know by any chance what happen to my noodles? esp. pad thai box set, was $1.69 if I remember correctly- dried two servings noodle with little pouch of sauce. you supply veggies, tofu, peanuts bits and lime. mmmmmmm

no no there is no hijack in “launch” ( yeah right, look who is talking…)
stay and post please.
by the way
do you like “Winner the Pooh”?

You seem to know TJ’s well B and D! I also suffer the loss of my favorite products, just like you! I used to think I should hoard them if I knew they were seasonal or going out (although we usually don’t know either), but then I just postponed the inevitable! It is funny you should say that about the bacon chocolate. I love the combo and make cupcakes with bacon! Also, one father’s day when I was working demo, a few years ago, we did bacon dipped chocolate as our demo for the day! Yummy. So sorry about the noodles. I have no idea where they went or why. But I have been to the store near Union Square and I could not believe the crowds. Then I realized that in NYC the prices of many of TJ’s goods are sort of like being in a 5 and dime store (really cheap), so people will stand in line. I think there were about 50 in line that day. Now that the other stores have opened all over and in the outer boroughs, I hope the lines are better–although they are still full of New Yorkers! Just kidding!!! Love Pooh!!
