According to what I have been reading those lawyer statements have been pure BS. The authorities had not yet questioned her yesterday and she has not gone in for questioning despite the statements. I really wish these attorneys, PR and other folks could me made responsible for their statements including those who jumped the gun, making harmful assumptions without the facts and stating the assumptions as facts. I would think she would have immediately gone to the police if she were truly shocked and knew nothing about this. I would have. BUt if there are possibilities of self involvement, that’s a whole other story.

As I said, I’d like a decent summary of all of this. Not necessarily details, but too much doesn’t make sense here.

The whole thing is just horrifying to me from the terrible death and injuries at the Marathon, to how the heck these young man got themselves in such a twisted state of mind to do this sort of horrible thing.

At this point, the triple murder, murder of the friend, drug connections are just rumors. There has been not one official word on them, and the cops in Boston would love to smear those guys with anything they could. Had there been a lot of bomb paraphenalia or drugs in that apartment, we’d have heard about it. And as for outside funding, those guys couldn’t pay cash for gas to get out of Boston.

It’s possible the gas station is Main St. Mobil and the business hours are from 8 am to 6 pm. The Mercedes SUV had a GPS Nav system. You can plug gas stations as a point of interest on the map and pick a gas station as destination. You do not need to read the manual to figure it out. He could’ve asked the driver too how to do it if he’s not electronic-device savvy. However, the NAV will not indicate operating hours of the gas stations. It’s possible all the gas stations en route are closed and gas stations at Memorial Drive were the only ones still open.

Memorial Dr Mobile Gas station is open 24 hours according to Google. Shell Memorial Drive probably has the same operating hours as Mobile.

Russian authority was keeping tab of him, so I think if they wanted to get him drafted they could have done that. More likely, they were monitoring him and watching what he was doing. Our FBI was informed but I am not sure what they can really do? As long as he has not done anything illegal, what can they do to prevent it? Maybe they can watch and as soon as he buys some pressure cookers, or fireworks, or remote controlled toy cars, then get a search warrant?

If Katharine handed the 2-yo off to Tamerlan just hours before the shootout, and left for a presumably long shift, who was taking care of the baby during the shootout, car chase, etc.?

"It’s possible all the gas stations en route are closed and gas stations at Memorial Drive were the only ones still open. "

Not sure what time it was but there are so many gas stations on Rt 20. And if they were all closed, there are a couple of gas stations on I-95 (Rt 128) that are open all night or even on Mass Pike west if they were going to NY. That would have been less than 4-5 minutes away instead of all the way back east to Cambridge. Maybe they are more familiar with the area where they went but still quite a way back and closed to MIT where they just killed a cop.

It infuriates me that people were maimed like this.

Re: post#66

If the closed gas station along Route 20 was Main St. Mobile in Watertown then that is only 5 miles away from Memorial Drive Shell. That’s roughly an 11 min drive. If my car was running on empty do I drive back to the gas station I know is open 24 hours or do I keep driving searching for open gas stations and risk the possibility of running out of gas? I would do the former. The bombers probably felt it was not risky at all to drive back since no one has linked the Mercedes SUV to them yet.

I mentioned the same thing to my daughter who suggested that he was responsible for a bomb that maimed and killed, killed a police officer, kidnapped a random motorist for a car and cash and so perhaps could not be expected to make sure his toddler had adequate supervision when he left home to do either one or the other or both things. (Nap time during the bombing/early bed time that night … stick the child in a crib and get moving. Hopefully, he did better than that though.)

I get the feeling that Mayor Bloomberg has terrorist plot envy. It’s bugging him that he isn’t on the podium day in and day out, giving updates to the media. I mean he’s the mayor of New York, this other guy is just the governor of Massachusetts…

Maybe it is bothering Mayor Bloomberg that these terrorists were plotting against his city and had been here last year and no one told him. I detest Mayor Bloomberg, but he and Commissioner Kelly have done a very good job with public safety. Besides, he gets all the warm fuzzies he could ever want by minding people’s everyday lives and forgetting about the important parts of his job.

How about the entire Tyler Dodd/Victoria McGrath story? Something isn’t right about this one either.

Even if she recognized them, failing to turn them in would not be a crime.

^Yes, I don’t think I said or ever meant that was a crime.

She may have recognized them, but not believed that they were guilty. The initially released video and photos were not incriminating. Who knows what she thinks now. She is probably not thinking clearly, given that she has just been widowed, and her husband and BIL have been accused of atrocities.

I think I read that the suspects’ mother said she doesn’t even believe the bombing happened-that she thought it was staged and all the blood was really paint.

Seriously?! If I were a victim or family of a victim, I would be so incredibly offended by this. I mean, denial is understandable, and few mothers of criminals believe they are guilty, but this goes beyond the pale.

I cut the mother lots of slack–but not other people who are saying the same thing, and have said it about prior tragedies.

^^^^I cut her slack when she said her sons were innocent, I did also when she said they were framed, but saying that the whole thing was a charade (and therefore all the “victims” are in on a huge hoax) and blood was actually paint was offensive, imo. It’s beyond typical denial and standing by your family.

I can’t give her lots of slack, not after all that she is saying. It is all America’s fault, her sons did nothing and those people who died and maimed are fake. No comment or please withhold judgement until everything has come out would have been a lot more sympathetic for me. Then now we learn that she was put on the terror alert list herself along with her older son, but apparently not the father or the younger brother. I can only wonder what she did to get her name there?
