Age difference

Not willing to generalize that girls are more mature than boys but willing to generalize that 1 year older and not out of HS is a hard fast rule? ;)

My 16 yr. old daughter doesn’t find guys her age so attractive either, and that’s OK with me, because that means she doesn’t date.

I’m with uc x 2 dad (a guy who has raised two daughters): no guys out of high school, and no guys about to graduate from high school if they are more than a year older.

Also, I would find it a bit unsettling if my college student son wanted to date a 16 yr. old girl.

I’ve never been in favor of generalized rules when it comes to parenting issues. Even if I wanted to, as the mom of 4 girls, I can’t generalize a rule for this situation. In my experience, it truly does depend on the kid.

Size of the dad’s gun collection/size of the date’s eyes the dad shows him.

^^LOL, SofO! We have no guns, but H’s “german” accent and mean looks scared away many perspective BFs (they just assume there must be a gun collection somewhere).

in high school you can’t date any one out of high school.

so, do you break them up as soon as one of them graduates, no questions asked?

Pretty much.
actually hasn’t been an issue- my girls are too busy for romance while in school.
It’s not hard to arrange ;)

I’m with EK on this one. The issue is moot - as soon as one graduates, the romance is usually over on its own. No “German” dads needed :)

I was smug too, until it happened to me. emerald, you tempt the fates.

Let’s see…

26/2 = 13
13+7 = 20

I guess I can only date 20 year olds???

this definitely was not our experience…

16 year old girl? Up to 25.

^ LOL, what formula are YOU using?? Why 25? Why not 23 or 27?

Keshira, if you were my 16-yr old, my H would have beaten the cr@p out of that 25-yr old BF wannabe! Seriously. No more than 1 grade level, and no more than 1-yr in age diffrence, as our experience tells.

there could be legal ramifications if one is a legal adult.I think it is better that they both are on the same side of 18.

EK, when it comes to sex, in our state a 16-yr old has the same say as an 18-yr old. 15-yr old - different story. D’s 18-yr old BF wannabe researched this issue, and was told to stay away from her (with stern “German” accent).

I was thinking more drinking, smoking, signing papers.
D only has a month till she is 18 anyway & I have not heard her talk about boys for a long time- she does have one that she writes- but he lives 7400 miles away…for now.

zoosermom - our Ds are about the same age, and I think up to 2 years age difference is fine. In fact D’s BF is two years older than she is, and they have been together for over a year now.

Zoosermom: Do you want to share the particulars of what led you to ask the question??
