Ah Geez, I didn't know decisions coming out so early. Chance before Sat?

Wow, I was thinking it would be more around the Ivy League date of 3/31. I was surprised by Caltech’s also, not been on my game this last week (waitlisted, btw). Anyways, a last minute chance, if you would.

Essays and Recommendations
Math Rec: Quite good, she’s a good writer, likes me, and taught me 2yrs
Other Teacher Rec: Should also be good. Swim coach, World Hist. Teacher, taught me 1.25yrs
Counselor Rec: Me and her get along quite well
Other Thing: One of the Boy Scout leaders heard I was applying, and offered to write to one for me for MIT (apparently he’s big in the MIT engineering stuff, though he didn’t graduate there). Should be good.
Essays: I’m not a great writer, but I’d say most were pretty above average for me, my common app long was about engineering + me.
Interview: Went well, I knew the guy because he helped me get 3 eagle req’d merit badges for MIT a while ago. We got along well, had some laughs, etc. His children went to the same elementary + high school I did.

Anyways, I’ve just really been looking at chance threads, and would just like a 3rd party’s glance at it. I had a chance thread on the What My Chances? subforum, but I thought you guys would have a better view of it (i.e. you know what they’re looking for). Oh well, chance if you want, its fine if not, I guess I’ll find out on Saturday (3 hours before my Eagle Court of Honor, too!) Ah well, the pi reference is worth the jarring surprise.

You have the same chances as everyone else as I can say, no more and no less.

I do not know enough about their admissions to give any reasonable chance, but if you are worried about your GPA being too low, I applied with a 3.71 and was accepted EA, so that seems to be within MIT’s acceptable range.

Well at least it’s not completely impossible.

Thanks guys.

Here’s what I don’t get about chance threads- you’re going to find out for real in THREE DAYS! Who cares what random people on the internet think?!?! I just don’t understand.

It’s a second opinions. Sure its purely objective, but it gives other peoples’ points of view. I know that I can’t really trust myself because I have so much invested in it. If I feel I have no chance, that could merely be myself putting up a natural defense mechanism so that it lessens the pain. Conversely, if I feel I have a chance, that could merely be because I want to believe I have a chance.

It put what I feel in perspective, and gives me anothers’ view of my application. Sure they can’t completely judge me, because its based purely on stats I give them, but at least I can have my mind settled, and my nervousness quelled.

Oh, and its more like 3.63 days. Don’t truncate, trucating sucks.

Hmmm, I want to calculate when it will be in pi days, but I should do this homework stuff first.

Because your sleeping hours totally count… >__<

Anyways, you seem like a solid applicant! Even being waitlisted at Caltech is impressive.

Just waiiittt…

If you get in, i’ll probably get in too, because we’re very very similar… robotics, eagle scout, academics… the only thing is you’re from a much higher income area. So we shall see, this could be interesting.

Best luck to the both of us, eh?
