AH Third essay MISTAKE

OMG! I just re-read my submitted app and realized I briefly mentioned a magazine I read in the third essay. The name of the magazine is very common (won’t say it) - but it’s political. UNFORTUNATELY, other magazines have very similar names - ending in times, journal, survey, etc.

I literally listed the WRONG magazine. The magazine I listed is incredibly biased (super-left), like full of conspiracy theories and everything. IT was not the one I read it.

I devoted an entire paragraph about this, trust me it’s tight but now I’m freaking out. The magazine is very specific to my major. If an admission’s officer sees this it could be REALLY BAD.

IS there ANYWAY I can edit the third essay? I just need to remove ONE word. ONE word. OMG!!!

This is why I wait till the last minute to turn my app in. I hope there is something you can do to fix it SFK. Good luck SFK.

I did wait till the last minute, I proof-read my essay 10 times. I had everyone I know read it. Counselor, teacher, everything.

That’s why there is only one error. And unless someone was super knowledgeable about political magazines (there are hundreds), they wouldn’t know the difference between a survey and a journal.

It really is that messed up. The magazine is extremely biased, borderline racist, full of conspiracy theories. It makes me look like a lunatic. UGH! Please, I plan on emailing UC but I’ve never heard of anyone being allowed to edit their essays after submission. It would literally be half a sentence removal.

This could totally sabotage EVERYTHING.

fffffuuuuuuu, I’m feeling anxiety with you right now.

i feel like jumping off a bridge.

I’ve committed so much time over the past two years, it’s like doing everything you can possibly do without a break and then say you’re a racist/hateful/ignorant about your chosen major.

And I really am a borderline case. I spent a huge amount of time crafting this essay, I fact-checked the obvious things but ignored the subtle differences.

How hard can it be to access an essay? I have finals this week and I can’t even focus.

My course of action would be to directly contact the admissions office and explain the problem. After all, it can’t hurt to let them know that you need to correct a small but important mistake.

Make sure you get to speak with an actual person - don’t leave them any messages. I don’t think they’d get back to you.

is the admission’s office the same # at the UC app help site?

i guess my time is limited - only 1 day left.

third essay? i only get two prompts…

the third optional one.

Yeah, SanFranciscoKid, there is no third essay.

The comment box that follows the personal statement pages is strictly to be used to further expound on nuances like Ws, dropped classes, skipping of semesters due to familial problems or whatever else, etc.

I’m going to be that guy and tell you straight up that you wouldn’t have fudged if you had read the directions.

I can’t get a hold of anyone, I’ve been on hold for 30 mins. Any other numbers to call?

What third essay?

The third essay is supposed to be for additional comments that were not addressed in the personal statements or otherwise addressed on the app. Anything related to your major should have been in the first prompt.

Anyway, whatever. Nobody is going to fact check your third essay, dude. I’m sure no one will even know what you’re talking about. Chill out. Divert that energy to your math class!
