AHH---AHH--Comfortably Numb

Roger Waters–The Wall concert.

H and I just got home from this concert. All I can say is—WOW!

It was incredible!

I feel completely out of it - I’ve never heard of this person or group. I’ll have to look them up on youtube.

Glad you had such a good time, nysmile!

Roger Waters is from Pink Floyd, now performing solo, and “The Wall” was one of their most notable albums. And the song “Comfortably Numb” was from that.

I haven’t been much of a Floyd fan since my teens, but I’m always glad to hear someone get to experience a concert of one of their favorites. That’s something I hope I don’t outgrow.

Sure you have-- he was the bass player for Pink Floyd. nysmile, I am so jealous.

Glad you enjoyed the show, nysmile! I’ll bet it was awesome. Were there any pig-blimps?

I adore Pink Floyd—I have all of their albums and still listen to them late at night in the dark sometimes, and Dogs is my personal theme song—but I have mixed feelings about them these days. Roger Waters is a genius, but he can also be a pompous jerk. The rest of the band seem like super guys, but their music without Waters is pretty pedestrian.

My boss plays in a Pink Floyd cover band… nuff said.

nysmile - This is so funny that you would post about the concert. D2 is 16 and loves music of all types, but is especially a fan of good guitar playing. H has introduced her to many of the bands we love and she is really into Pink Floyd now.

Driving to school this morning we were listening to a live version of Comfortably Numb. D would be so jealous to hear you were at the concert!

It was my husband’s idea to go to the show. While I appreciate and enjoy Pink Floyd, he’s a big fan.

Yes, there were blimps. One big black pig with graffiti scrawled all over it flew above our heads. There were big inflatable blimps or puppets (not sure what to call them) at various times on either side of the stage. There were fiery explosions and a plane flying from the back of the coliseum to the stage. The visuals were fantastic. The music sounded incredible. I don’t want to give too much away just in case someone out there is planning on seeing the show.

The guitar solo in “Comfortably Numb” was something I’ll never forget. The guitarist stood high up on top of “the wall” with the spotlight directed on him. I don’t know his name, but he’s awesome.

During the short intermission, my husband and I were escorted into the hospitality area. This was a big surprise to both of us. Let’s just say–We know someone associated with the band. Can’t give details–anonymity is a good thing to maintain on the internet :). It was cool to see some of the band members—dressed in their black costumes (some wearing red armbands).

There was a wide range of people in the audience— including approximate ages of 10 to well over 60 based on our observations. Everyone enjoyed it.

showmom: Your daughter would have loved it (along with you and your H).

There are some You Tube clips posted from the Toronto show (which was the first show of the tour).

additional info: I just noticed that there are some clips posted on You Tube from last night’s show at Nassau Coliseum.

The guitarist who played the solo last night----->Dave Kilminster
G.E. Smith is also one of the guitarists for the show.

nysmile - Thanks for the recap. It sounds like a great time. I will tell D to look for youtube clips of Toronto and Nassau.

^G.E. Smith from Saturday Night Live? Interesting.

^yes, from SNL. He may be most known to the general public for his stint on SNL, but he’s had and continues to have a very successful musical career. Read his bio on wiki–this will give you a glimpse of what he’s accomplished. He’s much more than an SNL band leader :)

G.E. Smith was also married to (and divorced from) Gilda Radner.

G.E. Smith played with Hall and Oates in the 1980’s

I went to Pink Floyd w/o Roger Waters in 1987 and 1988
Finally got to see Roger Waters in 2007

Classic stuff that sounds as great in the 21st century as it did in the 20th century.
