A big fat $0 for me too!

has anyone not gotten their estimate yet? i still haven’t gotten mine and i live in st. louis (pretty close to chicago). should i be worried? i am fairly certain that i submitted all of the forms.

Sorry guys, another question. The only way that the value of grant money can change over the years is if my income changes right? All things being equal, there’s no reason why UChicago would evvver decide to lower the grant? Without this money, there’s no where I can attend for the future years.

if you want to double check if you’ve turned in the necessary forms, go to the admitted students page and click the “fin aid” button.
Don’t be worried. Be excited you won’t have to see the line saying that you need to pay $55,380 for some time at least!!! =D

Pretty much, yes. There is kind of an odd situation that can arise though, involving Odyssey scholarships. My parents’ income went from about $59k to $60k over the course of a year and I lost about $3k I had had in Odyssey scholarships. I imagine the same would’ve happened if my parents’ income had gone from $74k to $75k.

the only form that is confirmed when i click on the “financial aid application” section is uchicago’s fin aid supplement, but i don’t think it confirms the css profile or the 2008 tax return forms. i definitely turned those in, though. does everyone else have their fin aid estimates?

Woot $47,000 in total aid. With employment and a few scholarships I might be able to graduate debt-free :)

Eliana, I haven’t received my estimate either. I’m from New York like HonorsCentaur. I don’t know if my mail was delayed because there was just a blizzard (there is over two feet of snow at my house, which is a lot for Long Island)…? Hopefully we receive it by tomorrow.

finally got it. as these estimates are based on the 2009-2010 academic year and next year’s tuition will likely be higher, the actual financial aid package in the spring will be increased accordingly, right?

also- how exactly do odyssey scholarships work? does every student whose family income is at or below $75,000 get one?

Congrats guys. I wish I could have gotten more. As it is there’s no way I can afford it :(

Just curious, my family income bracket is like 60-70, how do you think ill do? What im basically asking is, do those of you receiving 40,000 in grants fall into a similar income bracket?

my aid package was meh at best. i’m lower-middle income bracket, typical assets, and i’ll graduate with $30k in loans without considering interest if i go to chicago. hopefully columbia will show 'em up so i can graduate with no loans. otherwise…hello cardboard box, it’s nice to meet you–look at my pretty diploma and sad bank account!

I was awarded a $40,000 grant and $7,000 in loans, but the estimate doesn’t say anything about work-study… Does work-study need to be mentioned in order to be guaranteed a job on campus?

And goonskill, my parents make a little over $100,000 a year, but I live on Long Island where we have some of the highest taxes in the country and a high cost of living.

My estimate didn’t say anything about work-study either but the packet says you’re expected to make about $1000-$2000 in the summer and during other terms or something (I can’t remember the exact number sorry) to help contribute to personal costs.

(I just dug up my old financial aid forms.)

The first estimate I received (December) does not say anything about work-study. The second one, however, does (March). If you are awarded grants, you will probably be assigned work-study and that will likely appear on the second estimate. However, be careful if you go for outside scholarships; they will replace your work-study money, which is what happened in my third, and final, forms (June).

Hope that helps.

My fin aid estimate included several loans, however, according to UChicago’s website, “For students with family incomes below $60,000 a year, all of their student loan expectation will be replaced with Odyssey Scholarships.” Does this mean that when I get my final financial aid package in the spring, all of my loans will be replaced by an Odyssey Scholarship? (My family income is below $60,000).

No, the Odyssey scholarship should appear on your original estimate. Apparently, the University disagrees with your estimate. Does your family own a home or have stock in some company? This would drive up your EFC.

The Odyssey Scholarship shows up on our initial estimate? Are you sure? Because even though my parents own a house they make waaaaaay below $60,000. The recession and all.

I’m pretty sure Odyssey doesn’t show up till spring.
