Aids

One of the essay options for the Common App is “Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.”

The AIDS epidemic is of extreme importance to me, seeing as I originally come from a country where the virus is extremely prevalant.

I’m wondering if writing my essay on AIDS and the fight for a cure, and how I plan to one day go back to my home country (Nigeria) and work on helping to put an end to AIDs in the country would be a good idea?

Would it make me sound like I’m aiming for an unrealistically high goal? Would it be too cliche? I’m really not sure, it is something I’m very passionate about though.

You’re actually in a good position to talk about AIDS because you’ve witnessed it firsthand. As long as you make it personal, its fine :)
