I’m interested in Air Force ROTC in college. I don’t play a varsity sport, but my grades are excellent with a challenging course schedule, I have a job, hold many leadership positions, and am physically fit with a structured work out schedule. I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I have done quite well on all of the practice full length ones I have taken. I know that not playing a varsity sport makes it much less likely that you be selected for admission to the US Air Force Academy, but what about ROTC? Also, for ROTC, is it still required to take the fitness exam on the base in Colorado? Thank you so much for your help!

You’ll probably do fine, given what I see so far. Varsity sports aren’t THAT critical.

I myself am looking into Army ROTC so I don’t know too much about Air Force ROTC. Varsity sports are important in the Army ROTC scholarship selection process, so I would assume it is the same with Air Force ROTC. Are you looking to apply for a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship? If so, check out this link and apply here: [U.S. Air Force ROTC - Scholarships - High School Scholarships](High School Scholarship Types | Scholarships | U.S. Air Force ROTC)

The link should give you most of the information you are looking for. If you have additional questions about Air Force ROTC, instead of posting on College Confidential, use [United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/). The whole forum is dedicated to Service Academies along with ROTC. If you post a question on there about the physical exam, your question will most likely be answered by someone who is familiar with the Air Force ROTC scholarship selection process.

Sports are important due to the qualities they represent: physical fitness, teamwork, goal setting, development, commitment, etc. If you can demonstrate these qualities through other activities then you should not be at a disadvantage.

I played field hockey for a season but it didn’t work out for me due to my personal morals conflicting with most of the other girls on the team. I did co-found a club though and also hold a district presidency for an international organization. I also hold two jobs: one volunteer and one paying. I’m 2 years ahead in math and currently have a 4.031 GPA. Look good enough for the Air Force?

bucky: go to the sites listed and see for yourself. See the hurdles and benefits and push forward if you assess it’s something you want to do. Like most all “chance me” threads, asking random internet strangers doesn’t amount up to much. Best of luck to you.
