<p>I got a Coleman from Target for our son’s apartment earlier this year- it was around $30 or $40 and included a pump. It sprung a leak a few weeks ago and I finally got around to getting him a mattress and frame. So I don’t recommend Coleman for anything other than temporary use.</p>
<p>nysmile Is right about the cold air inside the air mattresses, an unwelcome feeling during the winter months!</p>
<p>The two twin things won’t work. We tried that once and we both rolled into the middle and pushed the beds apart lol. Even with a topper of some sort, I don’t want a cheap one. I want a durable one.</p>
<p>As for cold air, our apartment is always so hot. Even in the winter! We turned on our small space heater maybe a dozen times last winter? We’re on the top floor and we get all the heat. I’m not worried about that lol. </p>
<p>I do have a mental block against buying from Walmart, but I will try to find similar elsewhere. I did talk to my parents and they’re agreeing to help me out with it as a really late contribution to my apartment (they haven’t provided anything because we really didn’t need anything lol). So I can look at those better models. Really they’re helping me because they want it when I move- which is fine by me

<p>My son just moved into an unfurnished house for his senior year of college and we were not buying him an expensive mattress for 1 year, so based on the suggestions from CC, we looked into the mattress in a box from Walmart (that’s mentioned above). He was all set to buy that but they were back-ordered, so he ordered a similar one through amazon.com. (I’m not sure exactly what he ordered, but it was under $200.) He’s very happy with it and it arrived at his doorstep in a box, with extremely easy set-up.</p>
<p>Oh, and I should mention that he brought one of our extra air mattresses with him to sleep on before the bed arrived and he said the mattress from amazon.com was MUCH more comfortable than the air mattress.</p>
<p>Mattress in a box? Is that like a standard mattress? The problem is that I’m on the top floor of my apartment building and frankly don’t want to deal with a regular mattress lol</p>
<p>My suggestion would be to get 2 twin mattresses if you are going with an air mattress or you will be bounced all of the the place every time one of you moves. If you can borrow some from a friend for a few minutes you will see what I mean.</p>
<p>My D slept the last two yrs on the aerobed they sell at Costco. I bought it online when they had a coupon. It had a mini headboard and I think it was a queen. She shared her bed with a 60 lb dog. Unfortunately it sprung a leak 2 months before she finished school. She bought a replacement at Bed Bth and beyond but the one she bought was not as good as the aerobed it replaced.</p>
<p>We replaced the air mattress for our son with a memory foam mattress (twin). I could not believe how small the box was that it came in - the main concern for sleeping was transport and the memory foam mattress comes in a small box. You open it up and it expands to a full size mattress in a day. The best thing is that it is easily transported.</p>

<p>That’s pretty cool tech - I didn’t realize that you could compress coil springs like that. The memory foam is similar though the box is a little smaller - they vacuum the air out of the thing to compress it. The nice thing about these two approaches is that you can transport them in the back seat of your car if you need to move as they are fairly flexible. I don’t think that’s true for conventional mattresses.</p>
<p>I will definitely have to look at these more. I saw the video on my phone last night when I was posting and thought it was just a standard air mattress. </p>
