Long story short, I need an air mattress. I’m sick of the twin bed that my bf and I are currently sharing and I don’t want to buy an actual mattress because I only need it for a little less than a year. (After this year, I will be getting my regular bed back from home but it’s a long story as to why that’s currently unavailable).

However, since I do want it for a year, I want a durable and comfortable one. I’ve slept on air mattresses before and they’ve never bugged me. I need either a full or a queen and preferably one with an electric pump. I’d like to spend less than $100 but I’m pretty flexible on that. Any suggestions?

I had to get one of my kids an air mattress this summer to use during his living arrangements for an internship . Found good options on both Amazon and Overstock. Amazon many times has free shipping and Overstock 's shipping is cheap. There are reviews on both sites so you can look at what people are saying about the product. I found a very deep queen size one with an electric exterior pump and my son was very happy with it-said it was very comfortable and was under $100.

I have an Intex queen size, comes with the pump built in, and I paid less than $60 for it. I know they sell them at Walmart and Target over in the camping sections. I’d also check your local Lowes/Home Depot/Menards

A double will be a lot more room than you currently have, but a queen may be easier to find sheets for ( and probably is more the size of bed you eventually get).

We have a double bed, but that is because our bedroom is small, and our antique bed frame which matches our furniture is a double/full.

Definitely check out Target/Walmart for end of summer clearance. Got a great deal this time of year in the past.
some have more support on the sides to make it more bed-like. Queen is easier to get sheets for.

Since you are using this for a whole year and it is for 2 people, definitely suggest a queen size and also a deep mattress . Some of the camping ones are only a few inches deep. The one I got for my son was about 22 inches deep, more like a real mattress.

An aerobed is terrific but it will cost you well over $100.

I have an Intex too. When inflated it is 20 inches high so easy to get in and out of. It has a built in pump. Our queen cost $50. At that price, if it springs a leak just get another one. Remember to get deep sheets or they won’t stay on the bed!

I was going to recommend Gander Mountain. Looks like they sell Intex (you can price shop vs Walmart or Target) and a few other brands. They have sales.

Thanks, I will definitely check these out. I have a Target nearby so I’ll head there. Not sure about Gander Mountain. There’s a few other sports stores around here that I’ll look at too.

Good call on getting a deeper one. Didn’t think about that.

Aerobed. I sleep on a twin size each time I go visit my daughter in college. This past year slept on it for a month two separate times while she was recovering from surgery. I had no trouble sleeping and my wicked SI didn’t even complain (which is unheard of).

I have slept on a queen size Aerobed that is closer to knee high—now that was quite nice.

They are more than $100, but I think they are worth it. They are both durable and comfortable. And the are easy to inflate, deflate, store and travel. You may only think you’ll use it for a year, but it will always be handy to have it in the closet to pull out for additional people or to take on a trip.

My sister and I switched to Areobeds back when the kids were little and we were constantly buying and replacing air mattresses for the cousins’ visits. Once we switched, we never had to replace one—we just kept adding more as the kids grew and needed them for other things.

Definitely worth the extra $$. Sometimes can find the at Costco, Tuesday Morning or on sale.

You must’ve found some very creative sleeping positions! :)

We have Aerobeds but I personally would not be able to sleep on one for a week let alone a whole year. What about purchasing another twin mattress and pushing it together with your existing twin mattress? You can purchase one fairly cheaply at places like Big Lots.

js, lol. We’ve been doing it for over a year so it hasn’t been TOO big of an issue. He’s also skinny as skinny can be (I think at last weigh in he was 20 lb underweight) and I’m not large myself.

I’ll try to find some aerobeds. Maybe I can convince myself it’s worth the expense.

Well, I would definitely NOT recommend the Coleman queen-sized air mattresses. I’ve had a couple, for camping, and they seem to spring a leak within one season. In addition, they do not offer enough support. For camping, I’ve actually found a one-person el cheapo air mattress that one can blow up by mouth to be more effective.

I’d go with two cheap twin mattresses pushed together, personally. You could put a full-sized mattress pad or foam over both of them.

Maybe you and your boyfriend can splurge for one of these mattresses. You can order them on the Walmart website. Search on the site for: mattress in a box. I think it’s about $189 for a full size mattress.

I find air beds to be very cold in the winter. The air inside the mattress never seems to warm up.

Careful with some cheap ones. Bought a set of Coleman for D’s summer apartment because you could either put one on top of the other and have a high twin bed or could use side by side. One of them developed a leak pretty quick, did not even last two months

Disclaimer on my previous post regarding the Mattress in a Box from Walmart. I don’t own nor have I slept on this mattress. It seems to have many positive reviews on the website. I like the convenience factor----small packaging and it expands once you break the vacuum seal.

If you decide on an air bed, definitely put a good thick mattress topper on it to help block the cold feeling of it.
