I know it’s the day after…but does anyone know what the heck would have caused a Hartford to Minneapolis flight to be so delayed it was canceled last night…about 7.
Good points for Delta which gave updates frequently as flight got more and more delayed and it was obvious the flight wasn’t going to happen. DS finally got a text saying they were in the process of looking at rebooking options from which he could choose. Poof. They appeared, and he rebooked for this morning at 5:45 am…not my best time of day, but he had work across the country this afternoon.
Luckily this rescheduling all happened before we left to go to the airport.
But we are all curious why the flight was cancelled!
Could be a crew or equipment issue. Given that Hartford is a smaller airport, a replacement might not have been readily available.
Minneapolis had heavy heavy thunderstorms last night for several hours.
We have experienced the cancellation of a flight when two half full planes one hour apart and heading to the same destination were combined to create one totally full plane. The earlier one “cancelled” and everyone rebooked on the hour later flight.
Usually a Flight Status check will give at least a nominal reason.
With the progressive nature of the delay/cancellation, my two top guesses would be mechanical problem that at first they thought would get fixed, or domino effect of waiting for plane to arrive from elsewhere. Add in possibility of no crew because after delay they could not continue on the clock.
If you are really curious you can check the flight status of the incoming aircraft. The flight status page tells where the aircraft was coming from.
^I use FlightAware.com all the time. It’s very helpful. I like looking at the historical data on the timeliness of particular flights, also. Of course, I always seem to “luck out” and get delays on flights that usually have NO delays!
Personally, I use each airline’s flight status check, so my post refers to the information you’ll find there. They will have info for a couple of days past.
I prefer going straight to the source rather than a condolidator. But I have experienced info not being updated, at least once. It still said plane was taxiing to gate as my D walked through the security door where I was waiting.
Thunderstorms. Plus you don’t know where the plane he was to ride on was coming from. It might have been from somewhere hit by Hurricane Alberto.

Well…The good news is that he arrived back to his home about 10:30 a.m. local time for him. So really…the only thing he missed was a good nights sleep on his own bed.
He said today’s trip was seamless.
