Has anyone heard of AirHelp? Got an email that they could recover money from flights that were delayed by more than 5 hours a few years ago when we were traveling to Europe. They take 30% of the recovered amount. Is iegit?
It sure sounds like a scam! Do let us know if you hear otherwise!!
Apparently, the startup is legit, but whether the email is legit, that is another issue. Take a look at this:

Bottom line: you can do it yourself.
Super! Finally, someone wants to fight airlines! I am all for it. They can make money off of me. The last thing I want to do is talk to airlines. I could send all my grievance to them!
I got my money back. About $800. It is for a delayed flight from about 4 years ago. They took about $500. The fee is a bit steep but it’s money I didn’t expect.
Say what??? They KEPT over 60% of the recovered funds?? That’s usury!
No, the total refund was about $1300. So about 40%. It’s steep but I didn’t think I have a claim for. Airlines are often late and we have to put up with it in fear of being called kettle. Monetary compensation was not expected. I am sending them another case. I’ll see what they get out of it. If nothing, I hope they keep airline industry on their toes and make them behave.
Igloo, could you tell us more about your delay? Was it for two of you? For how long of a delay, what cause of delay, which airline, international or domestic, etc.
H and I are flying Jet Blue today and we’ve realized that we are on a route that is always delayed on the way home, and usually by quite a bit.
Sounds like you received an unsolicited email? How do you think they got your name and email to begin with?
How long ago were your flights? Is there a time limit? I had a nightmare series of flights that were changed canceled etc. causing me to have to stay overnight with multiple challenges with the itinerary and getting tossed between American and USAir who were just merging at the time. There was a Weather component but they were also mechanical problems that led to the cancellation of flights. Would that qualify?
Jym, the article linked in my old post has links to both US and EU regulations. Take a look at them to check if your specific situation fits.
$500 fee? How many hours did it take them to fill out a form… my guess is less than one.
OK. But I’ll bet my socks the mechanical issues that they readily admitted to that led to one of the many cancellations will be blamed on the weather as that was also an issue. But other flights took off.
I think you are correct. “Weather” also includes weather at a connection point or at the destination.
Weather was part of the problem, but one of the flights that utimately got cancelled was because of a mechanical issue, and the longer they waited to get it fixed, the worse the weather got.
Most delays are caused by the airlines themselves.

The flight was in January of 2014, SAS. It was two years ago not four. I misspoke earlier. It was that frigid January with repeated polar vortices and record low temperature. I am guessing they contacted everyone on that flight. I don’t remember how long the delay was. it could have been 6-7 hours. There was snow blizzard and practically every flight along the east coast was having troubke landing or takeoff. We had to fly to DC to connect to this flight which was delay by 3-4 hours. I was sure we would miss the connection except they were delayed even more. I don’t think thier delay was weather related.
@greenwitch Yes, it was for two of us. International flight from DC to Bergen Norway.
BB $500 is a lot but by the time they contacted me two years later I had no record of my travel. They found the record and took care of talking to the airline. That’s worth every penny in my book. Whenever I try to contact airline customwe service, they put me on hold and not infrequently it takes more than an hour. If I let them use an online service to send me the refund, I would have gotten $855 and $435 for them. I didn’t want to open an online account giving out my personal info.
I had 12 hour delay once. They had to fix the toilet on the airplane. I could see AirHelp can get my money back.
