Well, I was happy to see that airfares on the route my son is flying on have gone down. They shot up last summer/early fall. Happy to get the lower price, which is still a few dollars higher than what I paid last year. At least it is not $100+ higher per RT flight, which is what the prices were for a few months. For those who have not purchased tickets yet, you might want to have a look. YMMV

Thanks for the heads up. Am hoping they will remain down until I get my new United credit card so we won’t have to pay luggage fees that could be up to $75 for each of us. I was approved online so the site said it should be coming in less than 2 weeks. Am still waiting to hear from S anyway about where he is and will be living in Nov/Dec. He’s been silent since he said he was “in the process of moving.” Hope to hear SOON!

We were just now talking about this - planning a trip home (Boston <-> Charlotte) for Thanksgiving. I love how the airlines have rewritten econ 101. I heard on the news that due to the weak economy traffic was down and therefore airlines would be raising ticket prices to make up the lost revenue… I’m thinking… wait a sec, if demand is down, doesn’t that lead to lower prices ?? Again, according to econ 101 in that situation you can only raise prices if you have monopoly pricing power. But I digress… will be checking ticket prices today. Fortunately, son can leave as early as Monday that week.

p.s. I am really liking Google’s flight search function.

NJres, if that is true, I am glad that I just purchased tickets.

HImom, I hope that you get lucky with your tickets! Which airline usually has the best fares into/out of HI?

Generally we fly United but we can fly whatever is lowest. They mostly tend to play follow the leader & cluster their prices. Lucky for us, one ticket (mine) is for business so we only have to pay for H. Am crossing my fingers this works out.

While I’ve been watching them, fares I’m trying to book keep falling. Will keep an eye on things. Perhaps they will open up some more tickets that can be redeemed with points if they can’t sell the tickets they can at least fill the seats & reduce that liability. We do have A LOT of points too.
