A man is suing the TSA because they made him miss his flight.

Oh please. My guess is his lawyer costs and such will exceed his ticket cost.
The folks we know who missed flights (and we know a few) were booked on later flights by their airlines. Not sure if they paid a fee or not…but they got where they were going.
“Oh please. My guess is his lawyer costs and such will exceed his ticket cost.”
Betcha he is not after the $500 it cost him to rebook (yes, airlines will not automatically put you on the next flight for free). Good for him. Unlike other sheeple who would go with whatever TSA would do to them, the guy decided to send the TSA incompetents a message. Glad this is making the news.
^why would TSA change their ways? It pays them to be incompetent, they get to hire more people.
It’s the American way to sue when beating your head against the wall does nothing. The late passenger is only suing for $506, the price he had to pay to change his ticket. The TSA had only one body scanner working that day and the lines were more than 1 1/2 long. I hope he wins.
The family of the disabled cancer patient is suing for only $100,000. Considering they threw her on the floor and treated her so roughly that she was bleeding profusely, and they also arrested her - I hope the family gets every penny.
zobroward, that’s an awful story. That poor girl.
I completely understand why you’re saying this; based on what we know it seems like this disabled cancer patient was treated horribly. It doesn’t seem like there’s any justification based on what the TSA employees’ official duties are.
But here’s my complaint - how does the “remedy” of just giving her $100,000 really address the issue? The $100,000 is going to come from our tax dollars, not from the TSA employees who did this to her. If you ask me, real justice would be if the TSA employees were fired, forfeited their pensions, and had to spend a few months in jail for assaulting her. They should also have to personally pay as big a chunk of the compensation as they can from their own savings. That will do far more to deter stuff like this from happening again than opening up the taxpayers’ wallets. It would also be more just.
al2simon, I agree when you sue the government and you win even if they agree to pay you…you did not punish the offender they are shielded. so until the TSA agents involved are personally held responsible it really punishes no one and since it is tax money the TSA will not even try to change.

“The TSA had only one body scanner working that day and the lines were more than 1 1/2 long” they could just bypass the body scanners and just use the metal detectors. nothing will happen and it will be no less safe…but they answer to nobody and the TSA is a thoughtless bureaucracy .
The whole point of the TSA is to keep us all safe.
Stories like these highlight the fact that the most important piece of the TSA security function - passenger screening - is carried out by idiots.
These idiots make me feel less safe, not more safe.
^^^ A few years ago when I was flying a lot and my airport had the backscatter x-rays, I didn’t want to start glowing so I would routinely request a pat-down instead of the x-ray.
One day I forgot I had my boarding pass and wallet in my pocket and answered “no” when the patdown TSA guy asked me if I had anything in my pockets. So when he finds the boarding pass and my wallet he had an absolute conniption and threw a fit yelling at me about lying and having stuff in pockets. What an absolute joke.
Yes, understood. Was just clarifying with the poster who said they used TSA overseas. They didn’t- they used global entry.
Global Entry does not work overseas either. It only works on the US soil - to get through the customs in a (presumably) faster manner.
Yes, @al2simon, it is frustrating when tax dollars and taxpayers have to fund police misconduct or the equivalent. We can only hope that the individual wrong doers are penalized at work.
I missed the link by zobroward. Just read it and the embedded complaint. What an awful story, and nothing justifies that horrid behavior of the TSA goons.
That’s a horrible story, amd the girl a,d her family should receive recompense for injury.
On the broader level regarding the TSA, someone on the tv said the other day that the TSA has had its budget cut 10% at the same time that air travel has increased by 15%. Just something to think about.
hayden you could increase the budget 250% and it will run exactly the same, and they will request even more money the next year and even more the year after that.
Jet Blue is paying for TSA preCheck for its Mosaic members. I bet most of them already have it but that’s still a nice deal.
This is how airport security should run.
Every time I go thru Amsterdam Schiphol Airport I marvel at this and tell the security staff how awesome it is. It is the absolute antithesis of TSA. Professional. Efficient. Ergonomic. Fast. Clean. Spacious. Courteous. Confidence inspiring.

I received an email from Global Entry saying that my status had changed. When I logged in, I saw that I have been conditionally approved and could schedule an interview. My appointment is on Monday morning, so I should be approved well before my August trip to Canada.
Pretty quick turnaround for me!
