My son was part of a group that got busted by the faculty admin for drinking alcohol. They had the police administer a breathalyzer and were above .00 but under .08. The 5 day suspension they received is not on their school record nor did they receive a citation from the police. The school says they report disciplinary changes to colleges of the kids where admitted to make sure they are truthful and honest. How will the college react to this report which will go out at the end of the year? Schools include ivy and private. Obviously worried they will revoke the offers. Would you tell the school before the high school does?
Yes!!! Although I really doubt colleges will care, particularly if your son frames it as a learning experience. A suspension due to academic dishonesty or a felony would certainly have a college think twice; having a beer, not so much.
Absolutely. If I were the admissions people, I would view this as a character issue rather than a drinking issue. Getting ahead of it is one way to communicate the idea that your son will not continue to violate community expectations.
If they were busted by school officials, it also means they were probably drinking during school hours… is that correct?
Somehow that points to a bigger issue than kids having a beer after a basketball game.
That’s another facet of the issue that they’ll be concerned with. Kids drinking on campus is a huge issue; obviously this is something that will concern admissions people.
I would definitely be proactive.
Not necessarily. It could have been on-campus outside of school hours, e.g. at/after a game or a dance. At my school, you can be disciplined for drinking on- or off-campus regardless of time of day or night.
I honestly don’t think that the colleges will care
