Alcohol

Do you guys get zits when you party or drink? I didn’t party for 2 weeks and then I did recently, and now I have a couple zits. I had perfect skin prior.

Experiences?

Ever heard of a coincidence?

^ haha. seriously CC is turning into some kind of messed up women’s magazine

Choking…nah. It’s because the liver is overworked into getting the alcohol out so it puts the other toxins aside. Zits after all deal with the liver’s ability to remove toxins from the body. This is why Accutane and other such drugs–which damage the liver but thus affect it—work for cases of cystic acne. There’s actually scientific research done on this. I was just wondering if others experience this as well.

bendrumfront …yeah, but it’s better…because it’s free

I’ve also read (coincidentally, in a women’s magazine) that flushing (like, when your face turns red, which happens to a lot of people when they drink) can aggravate some people’s skin.

“^ haha. seriously CC is turning into some kind of messed up women’s magazine”

hilarious.

umm needadvice, i’m pretty sure that doctors actually dont know how accutane works. The closest i heard was that the vitamin A deriviative, its primary ingredient, actually interacts with your pores and other parts of your endocrine system.

Also, the liver is rather adept at multi-tasking. It produces many different things that can work at the same time. Zits are not caused by “toxins” it’s bacteria in your pores (it’s why dermatologists always tell you to wash your face constantly) I’m almost positive alcohol and acne have no correlation, also, if your stuff about accutane were right, I probably would have died given that I drank farily regularly while on the medication.

Regarding getting flushed, i cite the book “Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?” by Mark Leyner, and Billy Goldberg, MD on page 238 “Why do Asians turn red after consuming alcohol?
We thought about cutting this question because of the risk of sounding racist, but before anyone jumps to conclusions, go do some reading about the metabolism of alcohol and specifically the low-Km mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) isoenzyme.
Yes That’s right. There is a physiological reason that some Asians, including Chinese Japanese, and Koreans get flush in the face after drinking alcohol.
Here’s what happens: alcohol is metabolized in the liver. In fhte first step it is broken down by an enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase, and forms a toxic compound known as acetaldehyde. After that, a second enzyme called ALDH2 converts the acetaldehyde into acetic acid, which is nontoxic and can be readily converted by your body to provide energy.
Certain Asians lack this second enzyme and the acealdehyde builds up. The side effects include: skin flushing, increased heart rate, and severe nausea and vomiting. The severity of these symptoms depends on the degree of the enzyme deficiency.”

I_wanna…how can you say bacteria is solely caused by bacteria in the pores? Here’s an article: How the Liver Prevents Acne.

The liver is responsible for detoxifying the blood as it comes from the colon, lungs, and lymphatic system. Once detoxified, this blood moves into your entire body to provide your cells with oxygen and digested nutrients.

Because you eat, breathe, and create so many toxins, the liver has a hard time neutralizing these toxins. If you are constipated, this puts an extreme toxic load on your liver, which eventually leads to the excretion of these toxins through your skin and face. Excessive toxins coming out through your skin can lead to acne and other skin disorders.

All cellular wastes, used up hormones, and excess hormones are routed to the liver through your lymphatic system. Once in the liver, the liver starts the detoxifying process. If the liver is overloaded with toxins, it will start to store these toxins in its own cells, in the cells of your organs, in your joints, in your skin, or any other place where the body is weak.

Hormones, such as androgens that are not neutralized by the liver, can get back into the blood and move into the skin cells where they pile up and cause an over production of sebum that will flow into the hair follicle. This over production can cause acne.

Eating good fiber daily can keep your colon clean and free of constipation. Fiber can also trap excess hormones and prevent them from being reabsorbed into your blood through your colon walls.

If you are a typical eater, then most likely you have been surviving on junk food. The quantity of toxic chemical and non-food additives that are in the food that you eat accumulates in your colon, your liver, your blood, and in your face as toxins that needs to be neutralized and eliminated.

All junk food and processed food is detrimental to your health and to your face. Once you stop punishing yourself and forcing your body to process toxic food products, you will have a chance of clearing your colon, liver, blood and the blemished conditions of your face.

One other thing, when the liver is congested and weak, it does not produce enough bile. Bile is needed in your small intestine to help digest fat and to promote good colon health. In your colon, bile helps to activate peristaltic action and thus prevents constipation.

i was convinced it had been proven that your diet really has no affect on your skin. (at least that’s what i was told, and my acne was certainly not food related) Where is that article from? One of the reasons i questioned the word “toxins” is because, at least to me, the word has always been linked to new age healers, who are full of ****. That article sounds very wierd, it sounds like (or maybe i’m just misunderstanding) like it’s going against many of the things i’ve learned about acne, and the liver/lymphatic system in general. I drank more while on accutane (started it right after HS graduation, and you know how first semester frosh year is) than I did before, my diet did not change, and my skin got significantly better.

i agree that that’s probably not very scientific…but i still think that if you eat healthy foods (minimal salt and fat) and maintain a relaxed lifestyle you will be less likely to have acne…it works for me. then when finals roll around i get stressed and eat unhealthy…then the acne strikes…

well i think stress is a cause, because stress levels can affect hormone levels, and hormone levels definitely affect acne

so lets see…we have so far covered zits, guns, turn ons, how to be cool…surely flatulance is next?

flatulence > british hip-hop

eos > zit…

i just find it ironic that you are complaining about inane topics when you yourself have posted **** that’s just as inane

^ i was asked to put it up by some posters??? whats the problem there

other than my post all i have pretty much seen have been topics about guns, zits, girls liking guys, guys liking girls, turn ons, turn offs…so i thought i’d add my post… you got beef with that? i warn you, you will invariably lose some teeth! lol

I hope your face breaks out like beyonce’s a s s in a thong

^…

beyonce is a fatty. she has fat legs

Anyway, to the kid who is taking accutane…it’s really dangerous. I would recommend getting off of it. Vanity is not worth permanent damage to your liver. It is serious stuff.

Also, whoever said diet does not effect skin, then blah. Eat chocolate and sugar then. See if I care.

For me, I basically slept more, ate better, and my skin went from mild acne to perfect in one week. Then I partied and the alcohol gave me 2 zits. (I also flush severely btw.)

you’re telling me these aren’t beautiful legs? http://www.easycelebritys.com/b/beyonce_knowles_06/pics/beyonce_knowles_09.jpg
