Alexa Rocks!

Having way too much fun with our Amazon Echo. “Alexa, play Queen, A Night at the Opera”. And she does! (Connects to Amazon Prime music) Setting timers, and doing Google searches without picking up a device is pretty neat too. For those who have it…what’s your favorite thing to do with your Echo?

How good is the speaker on it?

I once played a little bit on a free software version of Alexa on PC (after I had downloaded and installed it.) But the laptop I used has a crappy speaker.

LOVE Alexa! My favorite thing is to ask her to tell me a joke. Songs, weather reports, keep my shopping list.
Current scores of games going on. She can’t find some things but is pretty entertaining. She’ll also play your audible books for you.
Alexa’s speaker is great. I can’t tell what anything sounds like on my laptop without using headphones.

Once we figured out that we could use our Amazon prime for music streaming, I was smitten. Last night was 80snight…Queen, B-52s, and Bowie. Fun fun fun!

@gouf78 The shopping list feature is awesome! No more carrying around that item in my head until I can jot it down. One thing I noticed though, is when I tell Alexa to delete an item, it still shows up on my list in the app. Am I missing a step???

And @mcat2 , the speaker is just fine for me. I’m no audio snob though…I don’t blast music, nor do I usually feel the need to control the output (treble, bass, etc).

You have to go into the amazon app and delete items from your list. It is a fail safe mechanism. But I still love it–nothing like yelling to Alexa while your hands are full cooking to add stuff to your list. The list will automatically show up on your phone and you can delete from there.

Thanks @gouf78 . I was adding all sorts of stuff to my list last night just to see it pop up on my phone. Then I said “cancel apples” and Alexa added “cancel apples” to my list. Quite humorous!

Well, you got your Fuji apples, your Red Delicious apples, your Granny Smith apples, and your Cancel apples. Why not? :wink:

I was debating about this. From the ad I couldn’t decide “Alexa” would be great or creepy. But my sister-in-law was talking about it a brunch today and they love it! I’m very tempted now…

@VeryHappy …lol!

@happy1 I hadn’t even heard of it until we got it as a gift. Now love it. One word of warning…it sometimes goes off unintentionally if the tv is too loud and a word that sounds like “Alexa” is said. Scared the daylight out of me one evening when I knew I was the only one home!

@shellz Thanks LOL!

My sibs and I got Alexa for our 80 year old dad. He enjoys her music abilities, but it’s very disappointing that she can’t give stock quotes without a complex exchange (it’s not in the basic app and the user interface is annoying). Hopefully she’ll get better! The jokes delight his youngest grandchildren:-).
