"All My Children" has daytime TV's first lesbians' wedding

I don’t watch soap operas. However I have a friend who an executive at ABC with considerable input into their soap operas. She has been in the forefront of cutting edge stories on all the shows she has worked on. She has the ability to, like it or not (I suspect plenty of people don’t like it) see the trends in human situation and open people’s minds to new ideas. So, the old “safe” ideas don’t cut it with her. And that is, perhaps a good thing.

I don’t necessarily want “safe” storytelling. It’s the “stupid” that I can live without!

I think that the term “stupid” has many interpertations. From what I understand characters have “died” and then come back 5 years later with amnesia. Or a baby who, after the initial fight over the parentage within six months becomes a difficult teenager. That is stupid. From what I understand many storylines are fan driven, many characters succeed because of the fans. Since we live in California where the question of gay marriage is hotly being debated, whatever side you are on this is indeed a topical issue. And, this is hardly a “safe” topic. (Yes, I know AMC is based in New York).
