(CNN) – Lavish weddings on soap operas are commonplace – beautiful, wealthy characters united amid copious tears, heaps of flowers and exquisite attire.

Actresses Tamara Braun and Eden Riegel take part in the wedding as depicted on ABC’s “All My Children.”

Monday’s ceremony on ABC’s “All My Children” was much the same, except for the couple: Bianca Montgomery and Reese Williams, both wearing designer dresses, united in daytime television’s first lesbian wedding.

“When my character did first come out of the closet, there was a lot of negative reaction,” said Eden Riegel, the actress who plays Bianca. Her character is the daughter of Erica Kane, a longtime mainstay on the show played by Susan Lucci.

And of course they ruined it with the surrounding stupid storylines! Yes, it’s a soap, but please - does everyone in Pine Valley HAVE to fall off that same cliff?

I eat lunch with my widowed mom almost daily at lunch. She’s been watching since 1970!

I used to watch it in high school. Erica was in high school then too. I’ve tried to keep up over the years but it’s hard when you have a real life.

So…can anybody tell me how Jesse came back and where he had been?

Jesse was hiding from the bad guys who wanted to kill him (and his family?). I’m not sure if he married again, but he had another wife-type person and a daughter with her. I can’t remember how he came back, maybe he was chasing the bad guys and ended up in Pine Valley. He’s back with his doctor wife (can’t remember her name either). I only get to watch once in a while, but have been watching since it started. Erica and I are the same age - we were in high school when the show started.

I also watched in high school and college, and would watch an episode every month or so. With a soap you don’t need to watch every day!

About a year ago I began to Tivo AMC and watching later in the day. It wasn’t hard to catch up with everyone; you can also read the recap online if you miss for a while. My husband, who also watched in college was home one day when I had it on and started asking what was going on. I told him I could not catch him up on the last 30 years, so he would have to watch quietly or read the recaps!

uh oh…my secret is out…been watching since 1970 very happy for TIVO now…and don’t even ask me how long I’ve been watching OLTL…anyone remember Joe Reilly?

But I watched the episode where Jesse died. It was in 1988. I was sitting on my family room while the moving people brought my furniture in. How did Angie not know he was still alive?

The officiant said, “You may each kiss the bride.” :)

I can’t remember the details of the Jesse comeback, except that the reason he pretended to be dead was because people were threatening Angie and Frankie and playing dead was the only way to keep them safe. Thinking he’d never see them again, he started another family with Rebecca, who just (SUPPOSEDLY) died of cancer in Denver. They had a dd, who is now in Pine Valley.

As the kids say - OMG! I watched AMC while breastfeeding (had to sit still… she wouldn’t eat if I turned pages of a book…) Jesse and Angie and Erica are still on? How about the nasty rich man and his diabetic daugher? The nice doctor family?

I haven’t watched these in years, but I do remember Joe Reilly - Vicky and Dorian were fighting over him, as they seemed to both want every man on the show.

And the rich man and his diabetic daughter - Palmer and Nina Cortland? Have no idea what happened to them but I occasionally see the young doctor who loved Nina on another soap (Young and the Restless?) when I am flipping through channels.

Palmer is still kicking around Pine Valley, though not as often as before. I always liked Nina and Cliff and used to wish they’d come back on the show.
