All UVa frats on suspension

I agree with CF.

My daughter would have been kicked out of Michigan. She received a citation for drinking. She doesn’t hurt anybody. She doesn’t assault anybody.

Most drinkers don’t assault anybody.

I don’t like all the drinking either as my kids are well aware.

I am open to ideas too.

Post 5139… Ok this is a joke.

A man who graduated from Case Western’s medical school had his diploma taken away for a drunk driving conviction. He was already in a residency program. The case was in the courts. (Read this on another website).

I don’t know how to stop heavy drinking on college campuses. An idea might be to have professors schedule difficult exams on Mondays. Students would either spend the weekends studying rather than partying or flunk out.

To answer your incorrect assumption, everything I wrote about what the women I know do not do and what they do not believe they have told me and explained to me personally. There is no conjecture here on my part; this is exactly what they believe.

We are part of the same groups and circles and all have college age kids and this discussion comes up all the time now when another story hits the headlines our our kids hear about another tribunal debacle.

Where do you live awc? Where do you live where the women all think the same?

Lol! HighSchoolDad2, I can’t play.

So. “Responsible, concerned parents” would kick out a kid caught with alcohol. No educational response, no second chances, no nothing.? In the context of this long conversation, no review, no defense, certainly no due process. Just straight out the door.

Almost as scary as the poster who would rebuke a daughter if she ever got into one of these assault messes.

My post was a direct response to post below and to point out that there is more than one women’s voice. That is not a focus on women, but a response to show not all women think alike.

I have been consistent that there is a responsibility component on both males and females when they get into grey area situations involving alcohol and no one has a clue what really happened, and it is a he said, she said.

I think the issue of mandatory, immediate expulsion for college drinking and deserves its own thread. Go for it. See what traction you get.

Highschooldad2, I admitted the numbers are problematic, but you have presented nothing to support your statement that 99% of campus rapes involve drunken sex. A significant number do. But not all. The root cause of rape is not drunk women, it is the belief that men are entitled to women’s bodies, however they can get them.

And I would be delighted if campuses enforced alcohol regulations. My D was an RA who followed the regulations and had kids pour out their booze whenever she saw it. She was told by her supervisor that she was “overdoing it”. When I was an RA 35 years ago I reported to the Dean that one of the other RAs was dealing drugs (think LSD not pot) out of his dorm room. I was told I was “taking things too seriously.” Campus culture is a real problem. And has been for a long time.

Tatin, he got his diploma.

I did not say the women where I live think all the same, what I said was:

I cannot speak for all the women in my area, but I do know my circle of corporate colleagues, college friends, activity friends and others are exactly like what I stated.

I would not mess with any of them. From the stay-at-home mom who just wants to bake cookies and take care of the kids (my spouse, for example) to the corporate CEO, easily 60%+ are packing and will not take any crap from any guy. And funny that no one would even suspect they are packing because they are just normal looking soccer moms etc.

However, most importantly, they are females who believe that the first and most important line of defense for them is themselves. They never voluntarily cede that to anyone else, especially a stranger, under any circumstances, and they are always about their wits. Not all women think that getting drunk and being dependent on another for your safety is a sign of empowerment - to them, it is self-imposed dependency, and they do not get it.

And as for victim-blaming, they think it is a ruse being used as an excuse to partake in stupid behavior without responsibility or consequence. Of course the victim is not to blame for the crime, as the victim did not commit the crime on himself. But, what I have heard from these women (and from their husbands too, by the way) said is the general statement that “When you do stupid things, bad things can happen whether you intend them to or not.” And to these women, drinking till you can no longer think for yourself is, well, stupid. No doubt, the same goes of their sons. And as for voluntarily intoxicated college students doing things they would not normally do, the male and female share equal repsonsbility for taking stupid decisions.

Where do you live?

In a mid-atlantic state. Not saying more than that. But to give an idea of area, there are just about equal numbers of men and women at the indoor range on any given day.

I am not into guns. You are talking guns?

60% of the women you know have concealed carry permits, and carry guns? That’s a high number, particularly for a MidAtlantic state. The young women you know probably don’t carry guns in their dorms, since typically colleges prohibit guns in dorms-- and for good reason, as students who are so irresponsible about alcohol would probably be equally irresponsible with guns.

Sounds like victim blaming. Yeah. It is victim blaming.

I can take care of myself. My father taught me how to use guns responsibly. I don’t want to have to shoot someone. I don’t want to have to protect myself from butt grabbers or rape. Worrying about potential assaults, and arranging my life in such a way as to do my best to avoid them, takes time away from more constructive and positive pursuits. It really isn’t the best use of a woman’s time. I want to live in a culture where all the men are like dstark and tv4caster. How do we get to that culture? I think it is about how some men perceive woman. Dstark has that right. The problem is not women. The problem is some men.

I am really tired of this idea that individual women, going about their daily lives, are responsible for shutting down the pervasive problem of male violence against women. I am really tired of criticisms of women who get fed up and try to start a movement to lessen that violence.

No it is not entirely a “male” problem and it so much easier for women to simply call names when other women point out that it is going to take change by all people. Look at how affronted some of those women became when sororities said just stay away from men’s bid night which afterall is a male night to celebrate with the new brothers. Thinking that “it is not us it is them” is also denial…

The problem is rape. We are concerned on this thread with male rapists. Male rapists are a problem. The problem is not women. They are never the problem Remove the male rapists from society, problem disappears. imho
