All UVa frats on suspension

Nrsdb4, I believe the point SWDYDH was making was that advocacy groups can use intellectually dishonesty as a strategy to achieve their goal, however noble. So, I guess they use ‘advocates’ to mean those aligned with the corresponding advocacy organization.

^^^^Unfortunately, there is plenty of intellectual dishonesty being practiced and it most definitely isn’t the sole purview of the “rape victim advocates.”

Yes that is how I read it also and I’ve been “knocked down” a few times for expressing that opinion. But I just pull up my big girl panties and carry on. Advocacy groups walk a fine line - too much shouting and people stop listening. Too little and no one hears.

I’m confused. I thought SWDYDH had rejoined us? Yes?

^^^Did he ever leave?

^His avatar apparently was in jail. I don’t know what that signifies, though.

Well, if people were digesting all his posts, there is no other way to take what he meant. I read it, exactly as you describe.

^^^^Unfortunately, there is plenty of intellectual dishonesty being practiced and it most definitely isn’t the sole purview of the “rape victim advocates.”

But, nobody said that. In fact, he said just the opposite and explained that he had a cause important to him and understood the advocacy business. The RS author understood it too. Unfortunately she did not expect to be held up to news business standards since usually she writes for fashion magazines and whatnot and no-one would ever have noticed any of this had she not mentioned one specific frat that even Jackie is unsure of. The cause is more important than the truth was her operating principle. And, she was very clear about that. So, that’s advocacy.

Maybe I missed that…I worked today and there were 200 posts or so to read when I got home. I tried to read through them all, but this thread moves very very quickly.

Wow, I’ve never seen the “jailbird” avatar before! What is that, a time out of sorts?

^^ Yes, there are lot of posts. But to be fair to SWDY though, he actually said that several times, in several different ways, in multiple posts, so even if that one post were missed, it is still clear what he meant.

Hell has frozen over - here I am backing up a far-left, anti-military, anti-death penalty, member of clandestine advocacy groups person.

I think he’s probably right. I remember a LOT of publicity about this at the time.

And even if he isn’t right, what the hell happened to that promise of confidentiality?

It’s not that surprising to me.

I’m going to repost this, because I really think everyone should read it:

I think you can post with jaIl bars pictured on top of your avatar.

If he or she is a college student he/she probably needed to go study

That’s a really good article Consolation. That story, because it happened at “my” state school was probably the first one that gave me chills and made me start looking into just what colleges were doing adjudicating this stuff. i think the college will lose this one but this chilled me to the bone:

and this is chilling another quote from the Michigan Daily:
