Are you looking to continue sports at the collegiate level? Then contact the coaches of the sports you’re considering. If you’d like to maintain voice, I’d suggest contacting those appropriate areas too.

Don’t ply the URM/Native American issue unless you can back it up – it comes off as disingenuous and grubby. If you have significant association, by all means do so. If you have significant association, you can understand why someone with a 1/32 association to a tribe trying to pass is noisome and should be duly penalized.

Best of luck to you.

Hello,
I won’t be participating in sports, but I did send in a vocal tape, music is my passion and it should have been obvious on the app. URM is 1/8th, but I did decide not to list it on my app. Our tribe does not have Federal recognition, but this heritage is important to me on a deep spiritual level. Thank you for your thoughts.

Excellent! Best of luck to you! If you get admitted, I know your residential college’s intramural head will be hunting you down to play for the College!

Awesome 10chars

Is it supposed to be a chance thread? You seem pretty sure of yourself as an excellent Yale candidate.

I’m not a yale expert, but I thought legacy status at yale was conferred only by parents who have graduated from yale college itself. But I may be wrong - since it’s not a factor for my daughter’s yale app, I haven’t looked into it.

Am I sure of myself? Well, I am sure that I care about Yale. Am I sure of my chances at Yale? Far from it. Sorry if it seemed otherwise. I can certainly understand how that was represented. If anything, I feel somewhat disadvantaged, since I come from a lower income family.

The Yale app asks for parents who attended Yale. My answer was based upon the fact that my mom attended/graduated from graduate school at Yale. It does not have a “drop down” menu for where our parents were enrolled.

Thank you.

I think you’re in if you have a compelling essay and recommendations, and if your tests are within the range.

I applied early to Yale last year with the same ACT score as you. I was the #1 percussionist in the state for 2 years and an URM (Native American), and I was deferred and then rejected.

Why coming from a low-income family would make you feel disadvantaged? Yale is need-blind for everyone. Besides, your EC’s are outstanding. Good luck!

Thank you. I did not represent my URM since it is not a federally recognized tribe, and I have not lived in that identity. All applicants to Yale have some things in common, and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why some get in and some don’t.

Where did you end up?

“All applicants to Yale have some things in common, and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why some get in and some don’t.”

It’s a subjective process. Several admissions officers have been candid about saying that outcomes could easily have been different.

Where are you going now ccdano? And what state did you go to high school in?

You present exactly what will make you a competitive candidate at Yale. I would give you at least a 60% chance of being admitted from what I can see. If your essays and teacher recs show your character, I would increase that percentage. Best of luck to you.

And yes, you are a legacy. Yale does not differentiate between the College and grad/professional schools.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I really don’t take anything for granted, and I don’t feel entitled to anything. But I love Yale with the utmost sincerity. It has never been a matter of prestige, it is more a matter of immersing myself in a place so I can explore my passions. Yale is that place (for me). I remember going to the Yale Rep as a young child…I was hooked.

I’m rooting for you, daughterofyale, since you sent in a music disc, and you wrote a nice short chances list (I just don’t get the ones that have every class listed from 9th to 12th)! I’m sure you are planning on singing at Yale (Yale’s SOM/ISM is my S’s dream GRAD school, but I know there are great opportunities for undergrads)–do you have a special musical interest?

Well, I will root for you also. It is my experience that if you showed potential and brilliance (for your age) on your demo, it will bid you well. I wish more posters on these boards showed your maturity and sincerity. And the way you exibit a reality about being admitted is refreshing. Thank you.
