Did not happen on campus. The husband who was an adjunct professor, apparently shot his wife, who was an Honors adviser, and then killed himself, in their living room. While their 2 kids are students on FDU campus. This is just horrible!

I’m pretty sure most men know this already. Most women aren’t like Andrea Yates either. Let’s not use tragic crimes to impugn entire groups of people.

*Chester Andraka, a 1984 Bloomfield High School grad, was a member of the Caldwell Police Department from 1991 until he retired in 2009 with an annual pension of $67,015.32, according to a 2011 report from the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS).

*

The H was a retired cop. He was 46 when he died. He retired about 4 years ago. That’s quite a nice pension for someone retiring in their early 40s.

Wonder what he taught at FDU? Criminal Justice classes?

Wonder what made him do this? Depression? Personality Disorder? Threat of divorce? Discovery of infidelity? Since it doesn’t sound like anyone else was around them prior to the tragedy, it may never be known.

Well, of course, they do, NJSue. I think that it goes without saying that I didn’t mean ALL men. The frequency of these stories where men kill their partners is a daily event, however, unlike the tragic Andrea Yates story.

There was an article in our paper today… 18 domestic violence deaths in our state last year, 17 of them were women killed by men. Unfortunately, the gender generalization is true. Not all men are capable of this, of course. But the pattern is undeniable.

^Yes. when I was a full-time college employee, my kids could have gone there for free (as an adjunct now, that would not be true.) I work at a different college, but that seems to be pretty standard.

This is a truly horrible situation, and my condolences go out to the family and the FDU community. But its probably best not to speculate about the mental health or the personal family issues of the perpetrator and victim at this time. It just feels a little icky.

We speculated about the reasons and mental health of the shooter at Sandy Hook Elem. It’s not as if we’re going to go to the funeral and ask their grieving children any questions.

It’s only natural to wonder what the heck went on when seemingly normal people end up in a murder/suicide situation.

I think this case is different. This case is personal because it was family on family crime, the children are college students and all they have to do is google their family name and this thread will come up. No will ever know what was streaming in the mind of this man and speculating on that is not only hurtful to his children that will not doubt read this someday. May they find peace among their family members.
