Also, I’ve heard that report times determine the companies we are placed in. Is this true. I’m set to report at 0800, does this mean my company is probably one of the later numbers, say 25 or higher?

Unless they’ve changed things, your alpha code consists of the two numbers of your class year (10), followed by a four-digit sequence that is a mirror of your classmate’s names in alphabetical order. In other words, if I list the class by alpha-code, the names will be in alphabetical order.

That said, I believe that Alpha Codes have a gap between each name, so 101111 would actually be followed by, say, 101115 rather than 1112.

As to whether time dictates company, I really don’t know. I don’t recall ever hearing about that, and since I came in the day before with the rest of the NAPSters, I can’t speak to the point first-hand.

This is just a wild shot in the dark, but my dad’s alpha number was his two digit class year followed by 4056 (according to the alphabetical order thing Zaphod discussed). He was fourth company so maybe? your company will the the thousands number. Zaphod, does that work with your Alpha # and company?

Your alpha number is utilized in many different ways at the Academy. It is among the forms of ID they provide you. You may wish to “protect” your alpha number and give it out only to Academy associates.

For instance, all your official Academy e-mail will be delivered to you via an e-mail address that incorporates your alpha number. Over time, that mailbox can get pretty busy with many (many) messages.

Collective wisdom seems to indicate that it is best to keep that e-mail separate from personal (family, friends, etc.) e-mails by opening a separate personal account with another provider. That way, when you have the time available to you, you can view those personal messages.

In the past, some venders have requested the alpha numbers of new plebes, and then utilized that information to send them “junk” e-mail over the course of their attendance at the Academy. It can be very annoying.

You should consider keeping your alpha number private for this, and other similar reasons.

Didn’t you get the memo? They put all our names in a hat, have a dinner party, each guest takes out a name, and one by one we are added to a list (about a hundred names per hour slot). Obviously. :)

What did the letter look like with your Alpha Number? My parents got there passes to get on the yard and park today and that had my Alpha number on it…did u figure yours out in a similar or different manner?

Please PM me his myspace name. I am not going to get him in trouble…but having your alpha code on the public domain (other than facebook) is against USNA, Navy, and DoD Regulations. We originally could not use FB because it displayed our alpha code…then the Supe allowed it.
