Is it worth bringing just for the convenience of not having to schlep to a computer lab if you’ve got a paper due early the next am? Or, is it just a space waster? I think the students get 900 pages of free printing per semester.

why cant I find the deadline on pitt’s website -0-

Do you mean admissions deadline? They have rolling admissions so they accept until the class is full. I think they ask for forms such as aid, scholarship, and scores by 1/15 but call the office to confirm.

Ummm…thread hijack?

My son brought his printer and did not regret it. It is an advantage to have it, but you’ll have to make room for it. That may be difficult for those students with alot of stuff.

I had my printer freshman year which was great because I would print out my Chem Lab Reports at the last second and then run to class. I stopped using it after freshman year when I got a new computer that didn’t have compatible software with the printer. There have DEFINITELY been instances where I wish I had one (like when I need to print out my boarding ticket for a 7am flight and have to walk 10 minutes to David Lawrence to access a computer). Overall, it’s not a necessity, but it’s pretty nice to have around for odd hours and weekends!

I think it also depends some on your major and where you live. My daughter lived in Sutherland freshman year and there was a computer lab in the building, so she rarely used her printer. It came home at the end of the year and did not go back.

I think it is definitely nice to have one’s own printer but the dorm rooms are small and it could take up precious space. You might want to bring it along just in case and then see if it fits.

Make sure to bring an extralong ethernet cord as dorm rooms are not wireless. also would suggest 2 surge protectors as dorm rooms don’t have many outlets.

If you bring your own printer, you pay for the ink, and ink is expensive.

thanks for the replies - i guess we’ll bring it along!

Why not? Worst case you don’t use it.

My parents bought me a cheap printer/scanner/copier freshman year from Walmart. I found it useful to have and I was able to keep it in my room in Tower B without it taking up too much space. Sometimes when I’m printing out little things I prefer not to schlep to a computer lab.
