Alright, so what can I do as an incoming freshman?

So I sent out a few e-mails last night to try and be proactive.

I was in the running for a district position in Circle K International but was unsuccessful due to lack of experience (lol), so I contacted UCD Circle K to apply as a chair for next year. Since I’m not currently a member of UCD Circle K, however, I can’t apply. Fair enough.

I contacted Bonner Leaders as I’ve held an interest in both the Peace Corps. and AmeriCorps. I introduced myself and asked about the program and inquired as to what I could do to be involved, as I learned about it after the deadline had passed and have a short three-year stay at UCD. The reply I recieved stated that I could apply my freshman year to participate during my third and fourth years, which is of no help to me.

Even the EAP department at Davis has been rather difficult to communicate with. I wrote inquiring about freshman opportunities in the program; in return, I recieved an form letter as the coordinator appears to be on vacation. The reply mentions something about not having access to their accounts on August 26th and 27th, which I assume is an auto-response they’ve been using since 2004.

So I’m giving up on the faculty for now and am turning to current students.

What opportunities, if any, exist out there for me as a freshman in Davis? TIA—I assure you anything at this point will be of more help than what I’ve received so far. :)

This is the link for the Student Programs and Actitivies Center. All student run organizations register here, and you can search for lots of different types of organizations - I’m sure you’ll hook up with students in areas you’d enjoy.
