Alternative Remote Lot Parking

Dear Resident Student,

We are happy to announce that additional parking spaces have been secured, for resident students only, at the Tri-College Center effective August 22, 2008 through

May 16, 2009. This remote parking lot is located at Merced College off of G Street and Community College Drive. Residents MUST complete and submit the attached application by August 15, 2008. Remote parking permits are available on a first come first service basis to all resident students.

This is complete bull, not only do we have to take a shuttle to our cars, but we have to pay 200 dollars to do so. Wth, this really seriously sucks. How could they do this to us?

yeah this sucks, this parking lot is pretty far from uc merced and the shuttle service probably wouldnt be very good as well
but i still might have to take it, my parents want to come back home occasionally,

one quick question, what does resident students mean? is that students that live on campus or something?

yeah.

resident students are students who chose to live on campus.

Crappy parking > no parking at all.

I was angry, I ranted on these forums, I realized there is nothing that can be done.

Yeah it sucks but come on, do you really need your car every day? Shouldn’t you be in the library studying or meeting new people instead of trying to escape?

We’ll still be able to go home on the weekends and they have kindly set up a shuttle service. If I’m not mistaken (I probably am tho), this parking is 1/3 of the cost of regular parking at UCM. At least there’s one thing to be happy about.

Not to mention the fact that at most colleges, freshman aren’t allowed to have a car at all…

I agree with fusionall…just try and make the best of it.

finally! optimism at its best!+D

Whoah, wait a minute. Fusionall, did you just say parking is 1/3 of what UCM parking is? Could you give me a source please?

Actually…
that is not true.

I believe parking last year for me ranged in the 300 dollar zone.
This is year will be about the same, and I have already received confirmation for a parking permit on campus.

For freshman the whole parking situation is different UCMrcdStdnt11. Only 30 special freshman get to park on campus(I believe) while the rest(freshman) have to park off campus at a remote site. UCM called me today telling me that I have received an off-campus parking permit. I believe in the email it stated that we(freshman) have to pay around 200 for the permit while everyone else(soph, junior, senior) pays 270. 70 dollars cheaper…YAY! oh yea and a shuttle transports us to our vehicles…YAY again! Sry for the sarcasm, but I am really excited about school.

I consider the parking issue no longer an issue! +D

haha. i already knew what the situation consisted of, thank you.

and i am happy that you are excited and being optimistic.

does anyone know when we actually have to start parking in the remote lot?

hahaha you should have already parked there. It’s the 2nd week of school and your just know asking that; haha that’s funny - sorry!

Well, you should have parked there on last Sunday. We can park on campus during the weekends but on the schools days we have to park in the remote parking lot. I hope everyone’s first week has been as fun and exciting as mine.

yeah thats the thing because i left my car at the lake lot the entire first week of school and nothing happened, no citations or anything.
i guess i better move the car in the morning, can we park on the campus lot on holidays?

As far as I know, holidays are open to parking.

The police don’t issue tickets, Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) does.
And, usually, TAPS takes off holidays.

I park off campus. At the Merced College lot. $216 isnt too bad for parking permit (as apposed to $270). Should I be worried about keeping my car there for six-seven days a week?
