alternative schools for deferrees

I was curious as to what are some of your alternative schools (since you were deferred)? I’ll start off with myself:

Princeton (deferred)

Columbia

Harvard

New York

Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (in-state, “cheap,” and great business school)

Pennsylvania

Virginia

Michigan

Berkeley

Wisconsin

Note I said alternatives, not back-ups (lol, no one would consider Harvard a back-up)

Wait…aren’t all of those relatively difficult to get into?

Wellesley

Harvard

Amherst

Rice

Smith

Columbia

Williams

Stanford (I don’t really wanna go here, and I kinda screwed up my application. Possibly subconsciously)

UT Austin. (I have guaranteed admission, but I don’t think I’d ever consider going here)

Penn
Wash U
Cornell
Duke
Emory
GW
LeHigh

Princeton (deferred)
Harvard
Columbia
MIT
Stanford
Yale
CMU
Rutgers (already accepted)…but I really don’t want to go here

Princeton (deferred)
Cornell
University of Pennsylvania
CUNY Honors

hmmm is it just me, or does Columbia seem like a second choice to a lot of Princeton deferrees?

I think at least 5 of you have told me so.

I wonder why.
I never thought the two to be similar.

UNC
Cornell
Duke
Syracuse (Newhouse journalism)
McGill (only 15k for all costs since im Canadian)
U of Toronto (read above)
Emory
Austin College
UT-Austin

haha it’s second choice for me too, although I didn’t list it in that order

stanford (did the essays on the last night)
caltech (yeah right)
berkeley (top choice that’s realistic)
harvey mudd
ucla
ucsd

I think Columbia has sort of the same caliber as Princeton does. In fact, doesn’t Columbia have the lowest acceptance rate amongst all Ivies, 9.7 %?

HMM…
Being in Cali,
my 1st alternate choice would be stanford and,

Stanford

Harvard

Brown

Yale

Berkeley

I heard something like Princeton and Brown share similar atmosphere of elitism or something… is that true??

PRicneton was REALLLYYYY “THE” school for me.
do you guys have any idea of the schools that share similar backgrounds / env. as Pt?

Here’s my list:

Princeton (deferred)

Oxford (Should hear back this week too)

Stanford

Brandeis (sent me free app)

U of Michigan (instead of U of I as safety)

Harvard

Cornell

Yale

Brown

U Chicago

The last 5 still need to get done, and will keep me off this board for the next two weeks.

i think…

 1. upenn
 2. harvard
 3. stanford
 4. wellesley
 5. mit
 6. cornell
 7. umich (in! yay im going to college)

Good luck with Oxford nelle!!!
You better take a break from college apps to come back here and tell us what happens! =)

It’s funny because it seems like no one really has a “safety”, or even if they do, only one school, lol. It’s funny how everyone believe only Ivies can match well. Well, I guess it’s just the overall CC quality thingy.

Thanks, omz! I will. Ahhh… I don’t know how I’ll be able to handle two rejections in a week, if that’s what happens. I mean, I’ve been preparing myself for Princeton, so I am totally fine with the decision (though sad, of course), but I’ve had higher hopes for Oxford, just because I thought my interview went really well. (the interview is the most important factor in their admission process)

Not to discourage you, nelle, but my friend applied to Oxford and he told me the interview went great. Then, just recently, he told me he got “owned by Oxford.” I don’t know…interviews just don’t seem that important anymore. But whatever, you alternate schools are great, especially UMich. Good Luck, nonetheless!

I’m hoping for the best for you nelle!
Oxford sounds exciting!

lol hmmm I have many safeties.
Every state school in Texas.
Guaranteed admission.
I can’t get over that.
I love Texas and its stupid rules.
But I’m only applying to 2 of them maybe- UT Austin and Texas A&M

lol, thanx, glory; just the realistic outlook I need right now. =) Nothing cheers a girl up more.

Did your friend get his decision already?? They have just been sent out…
