<p>After not making the cut for highly competitive academic program (RSI and ONR SEAP) my DD walked into BS kitchen and got her self a job.</p>
<p>Spent the summer in a HOT kitchen, working her butt off in an adult environment. At the end of the summer I had a much more mature, less whiny, more grade for the education kid.</p>
<p>I highly recommend kids getting a summer job in an adult environment.</p>
<p>Have you thought about an internship?
There are a number of organizations that offer interships. What locations were you looking for?</p>
<p>If you like the outdoors, you could work with one of the outdoor trail organizations (Appalachian Mountain Club comes to mind). You get paid, you get in great shape, and you get to hike several days a week. Not sure about age restrictions, though.</p>
