Alternatives to VRBO for owners?

A friend of mine lists her summer home on VRBO as being available for rent. Their fees are high. Anyone know of a similar site that gets good traffic but doesn’t charge as much? Thanks

Airbnb? I don’t know what they charge owners, but when I rent I try to go through Airbnb versus VRBO because of the high fees.

Thanks – I’ll check them out. There was some reason she didn’t like airbnb but can’t remember what it was.

I think a friend uses Craigslist for her rentals and has no trouble finding good tenants.

TripAdvisor has branched out into the vacation home rental business. Not sure how their fees compare.

Tell her to join some FB forums, try Say No to VRBO fees and you can talk in a closed group with many owners, some locations have regional websites. ABB v VRBO v TripAdvisor, v all the rest, it just depends which ones generate traffic. Yes, Expedia bought VRBO/Homeway and are slowing killing the goose that laid the golden egg. It might be their long term plan, milk the funds from it to pay back acquisition costs whilst simultaneously running it into the ground and directly bookings to their hotels instead of homes.
VRBO charges the owner a listing fee and the guest a booking fee which has been increasing and is algorithmically adjusted. They added the guest booking fee out of the blue and do nothing extra to earn it, it’s a cash cow for them. They pop up links to other homes & hotels & are soon to be blocking guest & host communications.
VRBO has also changed the advertising model somehow and hosts who have been doing this for decades are screaming that they are getting few bookings now :frowning:
ABB does not have a listing fee, does have a guest booking fee & does book communication details until the booking has been accepted
ABB has much much more guest friendly cancellation policies, which makes it less attractive to hosts where people normally book in advance.
TripAdvisor is annoying, they block “unpermitted” conversations, but they block them later and tell you later that your entire message did not send becase of one wrong word so people think you are not responding.
The best thing she can do it find other owners in her area and also on the international FB groups etc and figure out how to broaden her ads
