Alum Rec. =/= Legacy?

What is the difference between a legacy (Relatives attended) and alumni recommendation? (Alumni recommend)

Are they treated somewhat equally? Is alumni recommendation considered?

lol alum. recs aren’t that useful =[

legacies are way different though, cuz like, dude, they’re in your family/bloodline

you kinda answered your own question: legacy = (Relatives attended) and alumni recommendation = (Alumni recommend)

legacy is probably a slightly better hook, but tbf, i don’t think either is a very big factor anymore today. lotta legacies got deferred in the 2013scea thread despite having pretty impressive stats.

Legacies hardly matter anymore unless your parents donated a significant amount of money. It may bump you up a tiny bit, but seriously, it is NOT the hook it is being made out to be.

A lot of legacies simply get accepted because they grew up in highly educated families who knew how the college admissions process worked.

Alumni rec = zero value practically. A solid teacher’s rec is 100x better than some alum willing to say you’re a nice and dependable person. There are lots of alums. Not many teachers who will say “most outstanding student in my 30 year career”

A single legacy is pretty meaningless. Multiple legacies matter more.

If the rec is from the former President of the university, then it might matter.
