How helpful is Rice Alumni Connection system. Does anyone have an anecdote as an example of how a degree from Rice has specifically helped them land a job, internship, etc?

I’m only a second-year so I haven’t done much job-hunting so far, but from what I’ve heard, Rice alumni are very helpful and happy to try to assist other Rice students and alumni. The alumni website (http://alumni.rice.edu/ ) has a service for current students and alums called the Rice Career Network where users are given info about (and contact info of) alumni in various parts of the country(/world?) who are willing to give advice/maybe other help to those who ask. The service is limited in that you can only see info about x(10?) number of people per month, and once you “check out” someone’s info, other users can’t use the same person again (to avoid bombarding the same person with tons of questions).

I just searched for “physician” and got over 370 names of alums in that position :).

I’m a parent of a sophmore and even now I get email from the Alumni group in New York. They seem to have a lot going on, often at the Princeton Club. That club is usually reserved for Princeton, but they allow other schools to have group functions there, as well. If you are active in that group when you graduate, you may find some good local contacts, wherever you go.
