Alumni Interviewer + Handwritten Thank You Letters

<p>The distance between our houses = a few blocks</p>

<p>Is it still expected for you to send him a handwritten thank you letter?</p>

<p>You weren’t thinking that e-mail makes more sense because of your proximity…were you? HOW you send your communication is itself a message to someone.</p>

<p>Intended message: “Thank you very much!”</p>

<p>What you actually say once the delivery method is chosen:</p>

<p>By e-mail: “Yeah, sure…thanks. Whatever.”</p>

<p>By mail: “Hey, thanks! I mean it.”</p>

<p>By Western Union or FedEx: “Thanks a lot! From your insecure, spendthrift neighbor.”</p>

<p>By skywriting: “Thanks. And not only won’t I be asking for FA…but mom and dad have the scratch to help with the capital campaign, too!”</p>

<p>By smoke signals: If you happen to be looking and know how to read this, then “Thank you so very much.” And, if not…then “Meh.”</p>

<p>By lipstick on the bathroom mirror as he gets out of the shower: “Take a photograph of this and get a restraining order, stat.”</p>

<p>By horse’s head: “Thank you for understanding that I’m watching you and well, think about THAT before you even think to say anything less than glowing about me.”</p>

<p>By interpretative dance performed nightly: “Thank you very much and you can do yourself a BIG favor by having me live at BS 8+ months each year.”</p>

<p>I didn’t even notice the white font until cOllidE pointed it out. I love the Godfather reference. I’m still laughing at the last three!</p>

<p>As you can see, it really wouldn’t be as effective if I made the font white against this light gray background. I had to use the hexadecimal characters e9e9e9 to match the gray used for the background of this message board. A trick taught to me by a couple of posters from last year. Anyway, the method was humor, but my point is serious: HOW you choose to communicate colors your message and can either reinforce it or dampen it…depending on how wisely you choose.</p>

<p>You do it like this: [NOPARSE]Use the bbcode font color command and assign the value of “e9e9e9” to the color. Then you switch off the command with the slash, like so.[/NOPARSE]</p>
